Ronald's Story
General:
Graduated West High 1967. Attended Judson Baptist College (2 years) and then graduated Western Oregon University 1972. Three years in Army (drafted right after college) 1972-1975. Married in 1969. Three children--2 adopted and one test tube baby. Son (German) aged 35, daughter (Korean) aged 24, and daughter aged 14.
My wife (Joan) and I have spent time in Malawi, Africa working in orphanages, teaching Christian topics, distributing food/clothing, starting and supporting an orphanage, and helping in a variety of ways--the biggest blessing of my whole life. Village life is a far cry from our normal experiences here in the good ol' USA!
Currently live outside of Portland near the small town of Amity (southwest of Portland),Oregon on 5 acres of land (lots of weeds to pull), fruit and Christmas trees, nice home, and lots of wind in the winter. We have four cats and the best view in Oregon.
My wife and I are retired. We have one child still at home and contrary to popular opinion, kids don't keep you young--just tired. She is quite a character--takes after her dad quite a bit. She is 14 years old and 5'10" tall and quite the basketball player. I am grooming her for a basketball career so she can support us as we age.
I love to fly fish and hunt pheasants/quail, but don't have a lot of time due to other commitments. I coach girl's basketball in the local community. Love to read--especially theology and phi...Expand for more
losophy. Currently working on two books related to those topics. Spend a lot of time working around the property--"farmer Ron"--what a picture! Would love to hear from any of you who remember me.
Workplace
Worked in a nickel mine in southern Oregon during college. After college and three years in the military, I worked for a short time in the Employment Office in Oregon. Then moved to Alaska where I taught Jr High/High school in Tyonek and Soldotna for three years. Returned to Oregon, completed Master's Degree in Business and went to work for AT&T in sales for 15 years. Then went to work for Interactive Northwest as Sales/Marketing Director until I semi-retired in 2004. Do occasional consulting work in sales/marketing.
Military
I was trained in computer repair/electronics for one year. When reporting overseas, I said I could type so I ended up in the Hq Personnel Office. From there I became a Legal Clerk and had the "pleasure" of recording proceedings in court martials to remind me to keep my mouth shut and do what I was told!! In spite of being drafted right after college, the experience was worthwhile in a lot of ways. I gained personally from a less than perfect set of options.
