Ronald's Story

While these questions are somewhat entertaining, they fall way short of who I am or, I'm sure, anyone is. These are, obviously, generic in nature and designed to fit all graduating classes. Those of us fortunate to graduate & survive the 60's & those less fortunate to graduate in the 90's. It seems they don't have the opportunity to relax, dream, and think about their future endeavors. They are forced to adapt quickly to change. It seems, to me anyway, there's no time for dreaming. I research & study employment trends & by 2012 these trends will undergo drastic changes. The Silicon Valley is now the India Valley, with the majority of IT's working from ships in The Dead Sea or maybe the Mediteranean. Who knows anymore? All I know is time is Zooming by and I, for one, wish it would slow down a little. I'm so tired of commercialism, advertising, & buy buy buy!!! We're older & have seen many, slower, changes in our lives. Now, especially with the onslaught of technology, the slowness is gone. There is no Mayberry and Orwell's "1984" is long past. The rapid fire of change is bothersome to me and worries me, for the young peolple growing up in this time. Global warming was just a thought. Now it's a reality and a very real concern. Where have all the Polar Bears gone? Social Security running out. Maybe not a worry for us but what about our children & our children's children? I suppose I could continue my diatribe but, I'm sure, I'm not saying anything my old high school chums haven't been thinking on. Save the children!!! On a less serious note, I'm a very fortunate person. The things I was unable to speak of, in the Q&A, were my love for Photography, playing Drums/Guitar, and worshiping my twin grand-daughters. I'm a self taught musician, of sorts, but only for personal satisfaction. Yes "I can get no satisfaction". Jagger was wrong. I've been working with developmentally disabled individuals, for over 20 years. I've learned so much from these wonderful people and am envious of how simple their lives are & how totally honest they are. Whether it's mental or physical, they accept their lot in life and lead relatively fulfilling lives. I've made many friends, over these years, and plan to continue enhancing their quality of life as long as I'm able. I'm also blessed to have a wonderful daughter. She married a wonderful man in 2000 (Panama Beach Fla.), graduated MSSU in 2001, & presented me with the loves of my life in 2003. They would be Macey and Makenna. My first grand-children & they are grand. They filled a void, I didn't realize I was missing, when I gave my daughter to Mat to care for the rest of her life. My mother (Their great-grandmother) is still among us & the joy she receives from these two little ones is indescribeable. I didn't change much out of high school. I've led a pretty wild & crazy life but enjoyed it. Now, I'm pretty well settled in my ways and concentrating on being a good mentor for the girls. Before they arrived, I was looking forward to someday walking hand in hand in a park with a grand-child. Little did I know, I would have double the pleasure. I still work full time and my job keeps me very busy. Sometimes more busy than I like but I enjoy what I'm doing. Haven't decided, when I'll retire but plan to do some volunteer work when that time comes. If anyone reads this, I hope I didn't bore you with my rantings. In fact, I forgot to mention how badly our health care system needs overhauled. Never mind! I won't belabor this subject but it does suck!!! I doubt I'll be attending our next reunion in October. I'm not much up for reunions. There are a couple of people I would like to hear from. Robe...Expand for more
rt Daffin & Rod Such. John remillard! Where are you guys? I did connect with two old friends from Cal & I'm happy about that. Otherwise, I have little use for Classmates. Just curious to see who's still kicking around. Giving it one more year then I'm outta here. Bye, Bye - Ronnie PS - Just noticed the story ideas! There are 2 teachers I'd love to see again - My English Teacher, Rosemary Weideman - Lovely & smart lady - Learned a lot from her. Not just English but life in general. She went on to be a Book Reviewer, after she stopped teaching. Had some contact with her, as I disagreed with a couple of her critiques. It was nice. The other would be Senor Colon. He stopped me in the hallway one day, to inform me he knew (Grade wise) I could do better than I was. Not just in Spanish but all my classes. He didn't lecture me. He just encouraged me to apply myself. To that point, I didn't think anyone really gave a crap. I remember promising I would bring my grades up for him. From there on, I went from mostly F's to straight D's & boy was he proud. Kidding! I made the honor roll every semester, after that encounter. Sadly, Senor Colon passed away unexpectedly at a very young age. As far as Rosemary, I'm not sure. I am sure, both of these wonderful people positively impacted my life. Rosemary, I hope my sentence structures are to your liking. I tried not to dangle any participles. I never got the hang of dangling! I, later, shared my encounter with Senor Colon, with a teacher friend of mine. He happened to have a student he felt needed some encouragement. He knew she could do better, by applying herself. He used the same tact with her &, happily, informed she made a complete turn around. Thank you Senor! Without knowing it, you had a positive influence on 2 lives at least. Wildest thing I did in school - Pretty numerous but the one that stands out was the morning we pushed Rick Korns Volkswagon into school & left it locked up in the student union (Or whatever that area was called). I really don't remember who else was involved but we met early at the gym doors. They pushed & I steered it down that really narrow hallway. Other than letting us use his car, Rick wasn't with us & acted like he didn't know anything about it. It caused a bit of a stir, needless to say. I honestly don't remember how they got it out or if any of us got in trouble. Rick, you still driving that bug? Where have I lived - KC, Salt Lake, Topeka, Tulsa, Memphis, & Atlanta. Atlanta was during my Acid days. A friend of mine & I just decided to move to Atlanta one Friday night & took off that night. Lived there about a year or so. No, I didn't trip during the trip. Waited til we got there. As to why I moved so much - Pretty simple - I partied a lot & hustled some pool. In fact, on the way to Atlanta we stopped in New Orleans. Went to The French Quarter, saw a sign saying Bumper Pool Tournament, entered, & walked away with $500. Bought a lot of LSD with it Ha! Yes, I did work some! Also got to meet, trip, & swim in our pool with Jerry (Forgot his last name). Anyway, he was one of the Chicago Seven & was underground at that time. Very interesting conversation. He hung out with us a couple of days & took off. Got all that out of my system & came back to Joplin. I was needing the slower life style back. Pretty much been here every since. I don't party anymore & don't drink anymore! Haven't drank in over ten years. No reason in particular. Just got tired of it. Surprise, surprise, for those of you that knew me!!!! That's it! Wasn't planning to write this much but so be it! My biography is now posted on Classmates! Wow! Bye again - For certain this time!!!!!
