Ron's Story

I Moved from Florida about 2 weeks after graduation to California with my family. (I lived in Pompano the last year I attended Stranahan) and started at Fullerton JC at the end of summer, attending for a year. My father had a masonry contracting business and I was expected to go to work after a year of college--which I did. I loved college, and continued evening classes, and even became a good student. I married Linda Miller--from Sun Valley, Ca. and took over my dad's business a few years later. Ended up in Michigan where I did the same thing but Linda hated living there, and I hated the cold. We moved back to Florida and started building homes, then commercial buildings. Left there about 9 years later for a 4-year stint at BYU in Utah--then began a teaching career at a university in Washington state. We moved back to Utah to begin a job teaching at BYU; but had to wait a semester for the job to get funded. I ended up taking a job in private industry at a much better salary. Large government projects--military, prisons, courthouses and schools. Got terminal cancer 10 years later, fought it, and won. I had difficulty working full time so I started a consulting business and did well. I also taught part-time at a local college and a university--evenings. I managed Olympic Village construction for the 2000 Olympics in SLC for the state, which turned into huge lawsuits and much stress. My health was failing and Li...Expand for more
nda insisted that I quit. I retired two years later, a bit early, but am now remarkably healthy. As I age memories become more important. Reviewing this site has caused some serious reflection, and I have enjoyed doing so very much. I have communicated with a few of you--and hope to do so with many more. I've been retired 16 years now and am enjoying life. We moved to a small farming community which is the home of Snow College--the #1 rated small college in the USA. Love the lifestyle, small-town people, and only have one traffic light to deal with. We have two miles of alfalfa in our back yard and often over 150 deer within 100 yards of our house. My hobbies are trap and skeet shooting, fly fishing, wood-working (I have built much of our. furniture and cabinets for our previous 9 homes. I also like to write, and do so for several newsletters. Miss Amanda Wagner was a favorite teacher of mine, teaching English and typing--but I refused to learn how to diagram sentences and went from A/B's in Literature to D's in English. Ray Metzger was my shop teacher, and I took a lot of shop. One year he showed German atrocity films one day a week. That has had an impact on my life, and I still have some anger and even rage over this experience. I tried to locate him, to no avail, to discuss this. Has anyone else out there ever attended these movies? I would enjoy very much hearing from all of you! Ron

My kids make fun of the city we live in--Ephraim, Utah--but we have a good life and a somewhat sedated, but enjoyable culture. Yesterday, as well as Friday afternoon, was "Scandanavian Days." Ephraim was the "Danish Missi

It is no secret that I am afraid of dogs. At one point my father bought a dog--which I was not too pleased with. Here is a happier picture of me and Zip--and I used to play games just trying to irritate this poor dog. Al
This morning I am waiting for my hair appointment, which is generally a five minute activity. There is only one barber in town. So, I am posting photos of the kids. Here is one of Linda's health food store in Punta Gorda
