Ronald's Story
After high school I worked during the summer at a commercial graphic arts company running a line camera and silk screening machine, but I had a few of my buddies getting drafted into the Army, and I didn't want to be home when they were fighting in Nam. I grew up in a Navy house hold and if college wasn't in my future then serving my country was my calling. So two of us got a guarantee buddy-plan in the Army to fight in the Infantry for two years. We both got to fight in the same Division 25th Infantry, 27th Regiment "WOLFHOUNDS"( see google about our unit's legacy)on 9/27/70 I was wounded in a fire fight in the Hobo-Woods, South Vietnam, just a flesh wound to my face, neck, chest, recieved the Purple Heart medal and Bronze star medal. Dennis Dourherty, my homie, was snake-bitten on ambush at night, he made it home in 1971. Dennis attended Morse HS 1964-69 but dropped out do to being young, and not interested with school(stuff-happens)especially during the drug era!!!
Needless to say those two years left a big-scare upon my brain in which it still haunts me today......anger,abandonment,camradery,night mares, and fight or flight syndrome.......Then I met my wife 1972 got married in Fe...Expand for more
b 1973, 36yrs and three daughters later, I'm still kickin just as awnry as ever. I found all my old Army brothers in 2000 on the internet site that hosts the Wolfhounds, and I attend almost every years reunion,to hug my combat -brothers in person. We are aging though, and some have already passed into heaven.
After the Army I worked as a union mill carpenter, attended night college at Grossmont JC, and obtained a associate degree in Business 1976,I worked in the finish millwork trade until 1983 when I became self employeed and started a small sub-contracting firm in Spring Valley, CA. called Straight Wood Produts. I presently still own the business, but will quit in 2011, and relocate to southern Oregon, build a house and shop on a few acres, and just let the rest of the world clammer bye!!
My eldest daughter, husband and grand daughter live in a small town outside of Eugene,Or. so I've got some family close by.I'm sorry to say I've grown tired of California and all the hords of people, cars, gridlock on the road, and rude people that seem to pervade our society these days! I'm bunkering down where the wild life out numbers the humans. PS- I'll miss San Diego's weather for sure!!
