Ronald's Story

Life I am enjoying retirement after a 35 and a half year career with the phone company. I started with The C and P Telephone Company, which became Bell Atlantic and later Verizon. I started as an inside technician in Laurel, Maryland in the fall of 1966. I stayed in the switching equipment side of the business, transfering to the Eastern Shore in 1967. I returned to Laurel for a promotion in 1968, then back to the shore in 1974. I married in 1976. I was promoted to supervisor in 1985 and manager in 1999 as a Field Engineer. Bell Atlantic moved us to Salisbury in 1990. I retired in 2002 at the age of 53. My two oldest children had graduated from college and my youngest was just starting. I live in Salisbury with my wife Gale and son Jeff. We have a married daughter living in N. Va. and a single daughter in Ocean City. I am looking forward to grandchildren. My wife and I are antique collectors and dealers. I enjoy hunting, fishing and woodworking. Update 2005 - After 3 years of retirement, I was going crazy. Went back to work in Febuary. Started a property management business with 47 properties in Worcester County. Wife and I bought a waterfront farm in March. We are loving the country life. We own "Elgates Creek Farm" In Quantico, Maryland, just off of the Wicomico River. Our first grandchild, a girl, was born in Novemeber 05, another grandchild is due in September 06. Update 2006. Our second grandchild was born September 12th. We now have a grandson. Third grandchild (another boy) was born April 2008. Grandchildren are GREAT! Opened an antique shop in June 09. We saved an 1855 house from the wrecking ball. "Parsonage House Antiques" is located in the Historic Village of Quantico, Maryland We are 5.4 miles off of RT 50 at the 105 1/2 mile marker, west of Salisbury. Update September 2013. We closed the Antique Shop in December 2012. We left everything in the old Parsonage House for nine months before making up our min...Expand for more
ds and then having a huge auction in September of 2013. It was a difficult decision after so many years of collecting and dealing in antiques, but we didn't want to sit in the shop every weekend. We now have all of our weekends to do things with the grand children. We are up to four now with the addition of Connor. We have one grand daughter, and three grandsons. Update August 2014 Not being one to sit still for long, I started Ron Thomas Properties. I have been buying commercial properties and residential rentals in Princess Anne, Maryland. I will settle on my 11th property in September. I have started the new year with the 11 properties. All are rented except two, which I am in the middle of renovating. Most are three bedroom ranchers that were bank owned foreclosures. Can't wait to see what 2015 will bring. North Linthicum and Ferndale seem like a million years ago. It will soon be 50 years since I left. Update Jan 2017. We now have 15 houses, one commercial office building and one apartment. Incorporated last November RTP Properties, LLC. Update June 2021. I lost my wife of 43 years in February 2019 to a long battle with two cancers. Gale was five years younger than me. It was always a joke that I married a younger woman to take care of me when I get old. Sometimes things don't go as planned. I took a year off and with training from UMMC and Hospice, I was able to care for her 24X7 and keep her home until she passed. A year later I sold our forever home, Elgates Creek Farm. I downsized to a three bedroom home all on one floor. I am now 600' from my son, daughter in law and four of my six grandchildren. I have started the process of retiring for the third time. I have sold off 4 rental properties, with 14 to go. I was able to spend two months in the Keys this past winter. I look forward to being able to travel even more. I still enjoy boating and antiques cars.
