Ronald's Story

Well it's summer 2022. We survived the fire and evacuation of September, 2020, the great covid epidemic so far. We did come down with the dreaded virus last August. Donna was over it in less than a week it took me a little over a week. That just proves that she is tougher than me. We are about to embark on our second camping trip of the summer in our fifth wheel trailer. Both trips within Oregon. The first was to the eastern border this one will be to the coast and south to the California border. We might even venture into the coast redwoods. I'm still hopeful everyone will enjoy life and happiness for a long time to come! Winter here in the Great North Wet, pun intended, is progressing nicely. All during January the people who guess what our weather will be have been taking great delight in telling all how the mountain snow pack is 50, 60, or 75 percent of "normal" well in February that has become 90, 100, 110 percent. Here in the foot hills where we live we have had 4 snow falls. The heaviest was the week of February 10th about 4 inches. I took a picture of our house with snow on it. Added it to my photos this morning. Also added a photo of our two American Water Spaniels, Violet and Zippy. Violet on the left is older. She is zippy's aunt. Zippy's mother is Violet's litter mate, Sparkle. Here is wishing all a fair wind and a following sea! Our last adventure was a long, 4 day, weekend trip to Leavenwo...Expand for more
rth, WA. Leavenworth is a small mountain community on a major cross state highway. In the 1970s the major industry was logging and sawmilling. A major source of logs back then was the Snoqulmie and Mt. Baker national forests. The US Congress created the North Cascades National Park from parts of both of them. National Forests sell timber (trees to be cut into logs) National Parks do not. So the town reinvented itself into a Bavarian alpine tourist destination. Christmas and tree decoration are big annual events. The weekend we were there they estimated 50, 000 people were also there. See the picture. We retired in September of 2010 and are still living a dream. Spent time in Hawaii with friends and visited family in Florida. We were able to attend my great niece's wedding all last year. And I'm looking forward to a great 2018! As sailors say, here is wishing you a fair wind and a following sea ... Update: Just got home from Hawaii March 6. We spent a week each on the Big Island and Maui. Some wind and a little rain there while here in Oregon they had snow and cold weather. We lucked out, as the president would say " bigley." I'll just say we lucked out. July update: I spent a couple of days fishing in Sitka, Alaska in June caught halibut, salmon, yellow eye, ling cod and rockfish. Here at home we are having summer weather 100 degrees yesterday its predicted to cool off today to the mid 90s. So long again...
