Ronald's Story
Ronald is from Farmers Branch, Texas. Ronald is single. Ronald's schools include Cascia Hall Preparatory School. Ronald later attended Oklahoma A&M College (Meteorology, Geology, Archaeology). After transferring to Central went to A&M,was in special ROTC commissioning program, which was cancelled two weeks before I graduated (end of year) as had to go an extra semester. As an enlisted man went to James Connally AFB just N of Waco, flew in B-25's like they bombed Tokyo with. But CIA wanted our planes so closed base and moved TSTI in as cover. I went to Naha, Okinawa, stationed in ADC blockhouse, briefed CO's and fighter intercepts for Chinese planes coming out way, then was pulled up to Tokyo Weather Central. Got my Commission (3.5 enlisted, 5.5 years Commissioned (Regular, top 6% of Officer Corps) and was stationed in Portsmouth, NH, 2 SAC B-47 bomber and two KC-97 tanker wings. Was only B-47 base who could hit targets with one refuelling after takeoff. Flew in B-47's there. Had about 2 months notice of Cuban Missile crises, ringside seat. Gen. LeMay had them flyhing BEYOND the Fail Safe line tryhing to get us into war, thank God he didn't or we'd all be dead. As hate cold weather volunteered for JFK's Vief - Nam Expeditionary Force in 1963, Dr. says "Your blood pressure is awfull high, do you really want to go to VN?" I said GET ME OUT OF HERE! So went from NH to the mouth of the Mekong, 600 miles North of equator, 10' above sea level, mosqitoes loved me! Shed many beer pounds, was one of 198 Americans in the field. Got into every Special Forces base in VN, was also in Laos & Cambodia though Saigon never knew it. Had many interesting experiences including 5 kilos of plastic explosive go off 10' from me, does wonders for your hearing. Left with a $20,000 bounty on me by the VC. Bought my house in Dallas for $23,000 in 1967 by the way.. Went to Hawaii to take over the Wheeler Field weather station, but they did 3 illegal things to me and tried to send me back with the 25th Infantry Division. hat time (some think I still am) I declined the honor..Agent Orange has gotten some patches of skin, 1/3rd of my guts, my prostrate (lost 1 1/2") and 67% of lung usage in March, when had NDE (Near Death Experience) also, but have about 60% of lungs back now. Several of my Dr's are surprised I'm still alive, got down to 160 lbs, was 180 when left VN, Just this year I can set with my back to a door without being nervous (generally). Moved to Dallas to work for Braniff, got laid off temporarilly in 1970, but beginning to suspect they are not going to call me back, not sure why just a feeling. After working for 5 companies that went bankrupt, AT&T last, took a 2/3rds pay cut and went to work for Fed's SBA, as I wanted my medical and pension, glad I did. Doesn't matter if Feds go bankrupt, they print the money. Got my Bucket List done long before they existed. Have no legal marriages in U.S. or kids that I know of, enjoy piece and quiet, Mentored (by accident) several Jesuit Prep School kids, out of initial 5 have 2 multi-millionaires, one millionaire, one school teacher and one bi-polar suicide. Enjoy my peace and quiet, traveling days over, new picture taken this last Veteran's Day 11/11/2015, strap is for oxygen bottle I need every now and then.
