Rosalie's Story
Life
I retired from my job as a social worker over ten years ago. My mother passed away on March 23,2008.I had devoted many years to taking care of her,and I had a difficult time adjusting to her . I am now a grandmother to two beautiful boys. This is the great joy of my life. My daughter is a lawyer and her husband is a video supervisor and special effects artist for se movies filmed in Louisiana. My daughter has many abilities and uses them we'll. and a very talented song writergraduated from Cornell University Law School. She took a job in New Orleans . My daughter passed the Louisiana Bar Exam and was sworn in on Tuesday morning October 14,2008. I got an opportunity to see her represent clients in court.I recently visited New Orleans and saw that there are many problems that need to be addressed because of Katrina and the oil spill. If you go twoards Missippi you can see how big Lake Pontetrain is and how that Lake could have caused so much damage. You can still see the damage caused by the hurricane. I also visited after the Oil spill and was fearful of eating the seafood. What a shame, because the seafood is one of the best cuisines I have ever eaten. I have become a lot more political since the war started in Iraq, and anti labor sentiment ahas arisen I am very interested in important political events and writing to my current congressmen and senators about my concerns about the economy and the war I have also participated in some demonstrations..I am very concerned about Dafur and the radiation leak in Japan. It seems that we just don`t learn from history.I was happy, fearful and cynical when I heard the news about Osama Bin Laden. I hope it doesn`t take us down a more dangerous path. Most recently,I became a grandmother on August 27,2012 to a beautiful grandson Elijah Malachai. I am so in love with him.
I am very involved in the performing arts. I was in a community theatre production of "Annie" on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.More recently the theatre group did a revue including songs from Tony Award Shows. I participated in "Everybody ought to have a maid." and some of the big production numbers. I also sing with a number of choral groups. I was very proud to participate in a Yiddish "Gilbert and Sullivan " production of the"Pirates of Penzance". I played a Viking in a play written by one of my fellow actors in the Community Theatre. That play was chosen by Samuel French to be performed as part of a festival. I Participated in the performance. I also recently did spotlighting for my community theatre group. It was a first for me. I continue to sing with a folk singing group. I just finished performing with the Folksbeine Outreach Theatre where we did a tribute to Goldfaden, a major Yiddish composer.I havePerformed with The Yiddish group and the Triangle Fire coalition in the 100th anniverary of the Triangle Fire and I represented the woman "Ida Jukovsky" who was only 19 years old when she died. We will marched to some of the homes of the women, and there was a commemorative ceremony at the Eldrige Street Synagogoue.. Friends of mine stated that the ceremony in the synagogue was very moving. I believe that we can`t allow the latest turn of events in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, California , New Jersey, and New York to take us back 100 years.
One of my nieces finished working in Izmir, Turkey teaching English as a Second Language. She had worked in Japan the year before. She is now working in Maryland My other niece travels all o...Expand for more
ver the world in her job .My nephew will be graduating from medical school June 2011. He is currently studying space medicine in Texas.
My sister retired as the head of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Florida at Gainesville. She has won honors and goes to Haiti once a year to provide emergency medical care to people in isolated areas.Since the horrific earthquake, my sister has visited Haiti in January and then again in March. There was a special celebration in honor of her retirement.
I have been writing some poetry and plan to put some of it to music. My daughter is working on the music part.
After the most recent Child Welfare shakeup in New York City, I appeared on TV on January18, 2006. The first appearance was with Rob Morrison on NBC, the second on ABC on Eyewitness News and on Local Cable 12 News in Brooklyn. My Civil Liberty Case continues to be cited in books and newspaper articles.Although I have been retired from Child Welfare over 12 years ago . I read about a caseworker and supervisor who were arrested for contributing to the murder of a young child. It brought tears to my eyes, because I know how hard that job is. I
continue to be concerned about what is going on in Administration for Childrens` Services and have written many letters etc in addition to my TV appearance. On my 65th birthday, I was part of the peace march on October 27th. That was the best gift I could give to myself. I also recently marched with machinists and transportation workers across the Brooklyn Bridge in unity to protest the outlawing of collective bargaining in several states.I plan to participate in other demonstrations.
More currently, I became interested in making videos on my blackberry phone. I have about 112 raw footage videos that I made, which is on youtube now. I have participated in Occupy Wall Street, but go down every now and then. I agree that there is something wrong with the economy and changes have to be made.
My daughter has moved to Los Angeles and I am considering a move there .
I continue to be involved in music.
Workplace
I am a retired social worker. I worked for many years in Child Welfare which was a very difficult and complicated job.I am currently involved in a number of singing groups, which perform in concert halls, clubs and hospitals.I enjoy concerts, movies and theatre.
My adult daughter has completed law school, and is also very involved in music and performance. She is a lot like me in that she is very politically active.
I recently appeared on ABC, NBC and a local Cable station in Brooklyn, after the last Child Welfare scandal. I also appeared in a book about Rudy Giuliani, and a recent article in the New York Times. As of April 2011,another ACS scandal occurred. They will never go away, because the job is so unrewarding and full of pressure, and sadly our economy is not in good shape.
In regard to a high school reunion, I think people would be surprised that I went down a slightly unconventional path. I tended to keep to my self in high school, and kept a low profile. I still am on the quiet side, but I feel that I have accomplished more than I expected. Music and art are great loves of mine. I express myself in singing groups and make v
I always wanted to be a teacher when I was younger. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, it was not my calling.,although I am still interested in the education of children, and have done some volunteer work at a school.
