Roxanne's Story

I live in a small town located in the mountains of Northeast Washington. I really enjoy it here and have lived here since 1990. We are about 50 miles north of Spokane and about 70 miles south of the Canadian border. I've discovered I like living in one place after moving around most of my life. In fact when Holy Rosary High School closed at the end of my Junior year, my family moved to Kenya in East Africa. But, we always ended up back in WA. Only my national guard officer daughter & her family (w/ army officer husband) live outside of WA. At least my children and grandkids will always have a place to return to and call home. I am divorced. I raised 2 daughters, Debra and Heather. Heather is married to a military man and Debra is divorced. I have 5 grandsons, including a set of twins born in August 2008, and 1 granddaughter. I am raising my oldest grandson, CJ, due to a family situation. Until a couple years ago I worked at the local community college in Colville, WA in the registration office as the Night Staff person. Due to budget cuts I was let go after nearly 10 years on that job. During the last couple years in the office I started doing some tutoring in Spanish as well. I was very reluctant to do any tutorin...Expand for more
g since I really am not teacher material. I discovered I am not bad in a one-on-one situation and that I actually enjoyed getting back into my Spanish which I started learning the year before I entered Holy Rosary High. After graduation I did my first year of college in Barcelona, Spain. I continue to work at the college in Colville as a tutor for Spanish, English and even some History. As long as it is not Math or Science I will be fine. I critique a lot of English papers but I also read papers for various other classes which makes it an interesting learning experience for me. When I am not at work I enjoy visiting with friends and spending time with my grandkids. I am also active in my church. Since I enjoy singing so much, I am in the choir at church and in a community choir that performs twice a year. Something else I enjoy is just relaxing with my cat. If nothing else she keeps me company when I sit down. She is always right there to sit on my lap or cuddle up close, touching me in some way. She hates to be alone and so do I. Seeing that she is almost 16 years old, I realize she could pass any time now. Having moved around so much earlier in my life I never had a pet this long. I am really going to miss her.
