Roy's Story

Graduated and went on to college. My older brother was killed in 1965 in a car accident and it took a lot out of me. I decided to join the Air Force and did my time as a Dental Lab Technician. Got out and decided to join the hippie revolution and become a rock star. It didn't work out the way I thought it should. I was hooked on drugs and my life in shambles. One of my closest friends told me that Jesus could set me free from it all, so in 1975 I gave my life to Him and was born again. . Got married and had 2 beautiful daughters and went to work at the Veterans Hospital in Portland to serve the Vets that had been wounded and had teeth missing because of the war. I loved every minute of it, helping them was one of the most satisfying things I ever have done. I had a burden for teens and went into ministry sharing my testimony at Church and Donald E. Juvenile Justice Center for 14 years. So many kids lives changed, so many realizing how much God loves them and so many giving their lives to Jesus. After 32 years of working for the Federal Government I decided to call it quits in 2006. Unfortunately in 1994 my wife and it was devastating. I went though some very hard times, but life goes on. I met up with a woman who I had dated in college, fell in love again and after 21 years got married again. Funny but I still live in the house in West Slope I bought in 1973, hard to believe 47 years here. I'm still working on the house, just got new siding, new windows and remodeled the kitchen. Basement bathroom is the last thing. I love classic cars and have a 1965 Pontiac LeMans that I have restored. A lot of fun.. Close friends I had at Sunset were Dave Brown, Tom Jones, Gordy Ryan, Jim Reid and Larry Hardin.
