Roy's Story
Life
After graduating from EHS (finally)I joined the Air Force and was stationed in Columbus AFB,Ms.(Columbus,Ms) as a fire fighter for 4 years at . Got Married to a local Girl and before leaving Ms for a job in Alexandria La we had a son to show for our efforts..and as a Ssgt (E-5) Worked there at England AFB as a Civilian (GS-5) for about 2yrs before transfering
back to Columbus as a civilian. In that time I was blessed with another Son and in 1989 divorced, hung around a while and married the second time. It was a worderful marriage but she past away suddenly in Dec. 97. after only 3 1/2 yrs of marriage. She has 3 children and we had 4 grand children before she pasted. I stayed and worked there until Nov 1998 and retired as an Assistant Fire Chief.
In November of 2000 after a year of dating I married a school teacher in Cullman, Al. Sandra has 4 children, so now WE have 9 kids and 9 grandkids with another on the way. We live outside Arley, Al. with 5 acres on Smith Lake. That is in the William Bankhead Forest in north-west center of Al. We both enjo...Expand for more

Workplace
After 4 yrs. in the Air Force I got a job back with the Air Force at England AFB, La. Fire Protection Branch (Fire Fighter)1971. After two years I transfered back to Columbus AFB, Ms. (1973)where I stayed until 1998 and I retired...
There was a lot of fun, work, joy and heartache during that 30 odd years. Started out as a Airman 3rd Class got out of the service as a Staff Sargent 67-71. Hired in as a Driver/operator (GS-4) and retired as an Assitant Fire Chief GS-10) in only 30 short years........Enjoyed it but had to let it go....
Military
Shipped in on 14 Sept. 67 and left 26 July 71. Hated the first two years, hell on earth, SAC with hard asses that only knew how to give you misery. July 69, ATC moved in and the holiday was in place compared to SAC. Got married in 1970 and loved the place. Discharged, got a job at England AFB La. and transfered back in Aug, 73. Left in 1998.
