Royce's Story
My son and I are Civil War reenactors. I have traced my family to BOTH sides in the war.
In 1997 we we were doing a reenactment at Sharpsburg (Antietam). We met a man and his son from Cleveland Ohio. Spent the weekend sitting around the campfire talking about our ancestors.
A month later, he called me. He said his GreatGreat Grandad had a Capt. Hiram Yoho's name on his discharge papers from the 1st Ohio Lt. Artillary.
I went back to my geneology papers and found that Capt. Yoho was my direct decendant. He was one of my GGGreat uncles!!
There are two Civil War battlefields close to where I now live in NC. One is only 15 miles away. I...Expand for more
t's called Averasboro. The other is about 35-40 miles away. It's called Bentonville. Both are the sites of battles that were fought against Sherman's Army as he was heading back North after burning the South. My GGreat Grandfather and his brother, my GGreat Uncle, were in the 45th NC Company D. They are my ancestors on my mother's side.
Turns out they fought at Averasboro and Bentonville too!! Therefore, my family forefathers on both sides fought against each other at battlefields only miles from where I now live. Furthermore, my GGGrandad fought against my friend from Cleveland's GGGreat Grandad at these same battlefields!! Neat, huh?
