Ruby's Story

Life My family moved from Cottonwood our Junior year. I hated leaving my hometown. It was very scary leaving MUHS to attend Prescott High School. A school of ONLY 2,000 students in grades 10-12. However, I made some really great friends there, and think of Prescott as my home as well. After high school, I attended Yavapai Community College while working full time at a restaurant for a semester. I found that work paid more than school, which made it much easier to support myself. I decided to focus more on my career during the next few years. I worked for Commonwealth Title for about five years, and then the City of Prescott for nearly ten years. I began my career at the City in the Finance Department and spent the last five years as Patrol Secretary with the Prescott Police Department. In 1982 I met Travis Williams, the brother of a girl that graduated with my class. He had just completed his career with the United States Navy. We married in 1984 and had a beautiful daughter, Tessa in 1986. Unfortunately, we divorced in 1989. I met my current husband, Mark Tupper, when he moved to Prescott to work at Fort Whipple (the VA Hospital) at a singles picnic sponsored by my church. Tessa and I were there to provide supervision for any children that attended the picnic with their parents. Tessa and Mark hit it off right away. Mark and I married in 1992 the same year our twins, Andrew and Mathew, were born. Did I mention that, Mark had two daghters from his first marriage? Kayla and Andrea were two of the reaso...Expand for more
ns that I fell in love with Mark. At that time they lived with their mom in Rapid City. From the get go it was clear how much he loved those little girls and he was exactly the kind of dad Tessa needed. Not to mention that the girls loved each other from the very sart. Our family moved from Prescott to Tomah, Wisconsin in 1984 for two reasons. Mark's job and to be closer to Kayla and Andrea who were now living in Omaha, Nebraska. We loved the time we spent in Wisconsin and think of retiring there someday. It is a beautiful state and there is nothing better than watching a Packer game with the rest of the state. Go Pack Go!!! Mark's job with the VA brought us to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1998. While not the most scenic place we have ever lived, Grand Island has been a great place to raise our family. Since moving here, I have worked for the Grand Island Public School District, a law firm, and went back to school. I earned my Associate Degree in ParaLegal Studies in 2003 and in January of 2006 I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Human and Social Service Administration. Iam currently the Director of brand new not for profit organization, the Heartland Family Visitation Center. If you are interested you can read more about the center at the Grand Island Indepedent's web page. The Independent ran a great story about the center in its June 16th edition. I hope you have enjoyed reading what I have been up to. I would love to hear where your life's journey has taken you. I hope to hear from you soon.~Ruby
