Ruby's Story

Life My Spouse I met my current (2nd) and permanent spouse at work at American Airlines. When we first met we started talking about the weather.... I was VERY independantly single and didn't have a clue I would end up falling in love and marrying this wonderful man. We are so busy & have so much fun, that I look up for a second & I think to myself, "Whoa, 30 yrs have gone by! It IS true that "Time flys, when your having fun!" He IS my best friend. My Pets It was a cat my daughter brought home. I'm allergic to cats. She grew up and moved out on her own and left the cat with my husband and me. For a cat, she was a great dog! Ha. She's gone (she lived 18yrs), I miss her terribly, but there will NOT be another cat in this house! Ha-Choo! Eventually I found the cutest pug at the SPCA. She's a sweetie. We have lots of fun. When I say "we", that includes my hubby Bob & the rest of our family. I will always be grateful to the family that surrendered her to SPCA. We are quite the pair, Pansy the Pink Pug (somehow, someway, she knows the color "Pink" and anything that's pink is hers!) & myself. My Kids We are a blended family with a total of 5 kids. Mine (by birth) are the oldest, His (3) are the younger. They are "stair step" in age ranging from 35 yrs to 44 yrs. They are Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl, Boy. We have 4 grandsons; Caleb, Damon, Jack, & Caldric. Also, we have 4 granddaughters; Napolian, Violet, little Lucy, & Amelia. We are retired in Tulsa to be closer to the larger majority of the family. 2 of the grandsons, Violet and Little Lucy are from the two oldest kids. Napolian (yes, she's a girl) and her sister Amelia are from the youngest daughter, & her husband,(who retired from active duty, He had been deployed 4 or 5 times. I lose count). He has been to Kosovo, Iran, Iraq, and I'm sure I'm forgetting somewhere else the US has fought. Thank you for your prayers for his safe return each & everytime. He now is a civillian, but works for the army under contract, Please continue to pray for all those who are in active duty.. My Job I am a retired Flight Attendant and an award winning Artist (I work primarly in oils)! For a short time, I worked a little in "estate sales". I really enjoyed the trust people gave us to take care and sell their belongings. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and now am unable to work. Stress seems to be a trigger for a painfull episode. It seems that 9/11 was the activator to the Fibromyalgia (I worked with the AA crews that perished (on 9/11) back in "98. I knew some of them fairly well). Please keep in mind this is just my doctor's theory. They (the Doctors) really don't know. But hey! It's not terminal! Go ahead and "google...Expand for more
" it to find out more. But please, don't send me all kinds of cures, treatments, etc. I'm dealing with it and am trying to be educated and proactive when it comes to my health. Thank you for your consideration. And please remember, I really am, "just happy to be here on this earth." Every day the Lord gives me a new chance to get it "Right". You can't pass up an opportunity like that! School School is a mish-mash of memories. I'm not sure what my classmates thought of me 'cause all the time I was following my own drummer (so to speak...). I kinda figured out very early that if you were honest with people, and they didn't like you, that was more their problem than yours. I have very dear memories of my art teacher Tommie Price. She also was your tipical "odd duck" artist and great teacher. With all the personal things that was happening to me at the time (i.e., moving to my Aunt and Uncle's), I had my hands full just trying to figure out what was the right choices in life. What I didn't realize (and do now) is that there were many of us in the same situation at the same time. Too bad it wasn't "cool" to talk about your home problems back then... But hey! We survived and I think the large majority of us are better, stronger, & more empathetic people for it! It is a joy to hear from former classmates and know they are doing well after all this time. And the biggest joy is when someone tells me that they remember something nice or kind or even funny about me. I hope that I left just a few sweet memories with someone, like many of my classmates have with me. College Oh dear, college... I got to find out just how hard it is to play "catch-up" with your education when you marry 1st, have kids, THEN go back to school. As a divorced mom, it was kids, work, school. And not always in that order, I am sorry to say. Something had to give, so eventually it was school. I loved every minute of it though and even today I occasionally take a class here or there! Workplace I worked for American Airlines both in Tulsa, Ok. and the DFW area from 1986 to 2005. During that time, I held several positions within the company. I am now retired after having been a Flight Attendant for the last 7 1/2 yrs. Having started in the Safety Dept. of American, I was one of your more knowledgeable Flight Attendants when it came to Safety... I will always remember my time at American, but the industry has changed and the only thing I seem to really miss is my former coworkers. I also devote as much time as possible to my art work. No one told me retirement would be so busy! My goal is to become a famous artist before I die (or at least be the mother or grandmother of one.) Wish me luck!

I saw this on MLK day. I always admired MLK’s work. He was the one who made me realize as a “tweener” that there were people being treated unjustly for the color of their skin. But only this year did I learn (at 65) what
