Rudy's Story
I've been living in Massachusetts since the late 1970s, after going to Cornell for my undergraduate studies in upstate New York. In the 1990s I went back to school at Boston College Law School and got a law degree. I now work for a non-profit affordable housing developer as a project manager and staff attorney in western Massachusetts.
I've been very involved in the environmental and peace movements over the years, co-founding the independent political action committee Swing the Vote, which was very active in the 2004, 2006 and 2008 elections in the swing state of New Hampshire. I previously chaired the Millers River Watershed Council in western Mass, an environmental advocacy group. Before law school I worked as the series producer for PBS tele...Expand for more
visionâÂÂs national gardening program, The Victory Garden. I worked for that show on and off for nearly twenty years, first as an off-camera gardener, later as a researcher and then producer.
Some years back I co-owned Bittersweet Farm, an organic farm in Winchendon, MA. Gardening is still an important part of my life, though I no longer do any farming. I've authored various articles on gardening, politics and the environment, and write a guest column on political issues from time to time in one of the area's main daily newspapers. I've done a lot of traveling over the years, including to Iran in 2008 as part of a 'citizens diplomacy' peace delegation and to Venezuela in 2006 to take part in the World Social Forum. I'm married and have two sons.
