I worked part time (7yrs) as Executive Assistant for Leysath Security Firm, Inc after leaving H & R Block Tax Service (15yrs).
Author, poet, playwright, events planner. I've self-published one fiction story (All For You), 5 books and 8 chapbooks of poetry. My signature poem: Lord, Why Did You Make Me Black? ©1994, is published in Chicken Soup for the African American Soul. I also wrote a play based on the same poem. It was performed by the Fresh Visions Youth Theatre Group 2 years in a row. Currently contributing editor for Kwee Magazine, a Liberian publication. Germantown Church of The Brethren (in Mt. Airy) is my church home and I write a blog called "Keeping It Real" for their website. I've hosted a poetry venue called "POET-IFY: Poetry to Edify" that takes place bi-monthly (Feb., Apr., Jun., Aug., and Oct each year) in Mt Airy, since 2005. ons Network bi-monthly. I am the widow of a Vietnam Vet.
I also wrote a poem entitled "The March No One Remembers." It's about the march that I along with other students participated in (1968) the day Dr. King was assassinated. Most who did it, don't even remember it. To me, it was historic! Before changing to public school, I attended Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Elementary school; graduated in 1964 and Gen. Louis WagnerJr. High 1965
My favorite teachers at Olney were Mr. Bisk (ha-ha) and my Social Studies teacher, I think his name was Mr. Epstein, can't remember right now). My favorite teachers at Wagner were Miss Snyder (Gym) and Mr. Brown (Spanish). What I remember most about Olney was how much Home Economics prepared me for day to day living and that Olney is where I met the my first true love of my life. Sweet memories!
After graduation, I attended Clark College (now Clark-Atlanta University). This is where I made important self-discoveries and pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. I will always be grateful to Ms. A. Hawk because she encouraged me not to stop writing no matter where my career path might take me.
