Russ's Story

Been meaning to provide a brief profile of just where I've been for the past 40+ years since graduating from good ol FHS. Finally just about done and I can check this off the list! After finishing grad school in 75 at Texas A&I (what's up with that name change to A&M anyway!), I decided to check out just what mountains, trees, and clear rivers were all about. I landed in the Willamette Valley, in Oregon and pretty much have stayed put although have moved around within the state due to work transfers. I've made a career as a soil scientist with the USDA agency called Natural Resources Conservation Service and recently retired as a regional soil scientist. It's been an absolutely cool job with great folks and being able to see some absolutely unbelievable country covering Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Spent 30+ years doing that and now I'm involved in a little part time consulting (just to make extra bucks for hot rod parts and fishin stuff), a very active Grampi to 4 grandkids (Faithe 12, Eli 8, and Grace 5 all my oldest daughter Brooke's kids; and Sierra 5 my 2nd and youngest daughter Haley's daughter), and I really enjoy muscle car restoration in my shop, in addition to fishing. I'm married to an awesome woman by the name of Elan who also just happens to be a native Oregonian. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason they let a Texan stay up here.I had to marry in! Can't figure out what she saw in me, but taking on a Texan with two small daughters, has got to tell ya something about how cool she is and how blessed I am. I¿m positive our good Lord ...Expand for more
was giving me a break¿big time! Anyway, she's been hangin with me for nearly 30 years now! Retirement is crazy busy with grandkids; church involvement; care giving to my Mom who recently had a stroke, and also to Elan¿s Mom and Dad; fishing; hot rods; ...and so on!!!! Elan and I are hoping to travel a bit this summer as she is mighty busy during the school year with her chaplain position at a local, small Christian School. I'm attaching a few random pics to give ya'll a peek at how I've weathered over the past decades and so that ya'll can recognize me this summer at the multi-class reunion at the Alice Country Club. In addition, I've included some extras pics of my daughters, grandkids, and even the bro..Terry who lives only a short 20 miles from my place. By the way, he owns a small business, has a bucket full of kids...3 grown and now, 2 more little girls who are both 6 and from China! Oh yes, he and Debby (his wife) also have a couple of grandkids too! Think I'll throw in a picture of them too! Anyway, it's great having him close as we do try to get into some trouble..or as much trouble as a person can get into when fishin, kayaking, or just hangin out in general! Anyway,..that's it for the quick summary..it's been very cool making contact with a lot of Buckaroos from the past. Here's to keeping up with good friends in the future and making a lot more contacts! Think I'll try and make it a new years resolution to get in touch with as many of my FHS classmates as possible. By the way, if any of ya'll ever get up this way, you better look me up!
