Russell's Story
Where to start... after high school I went to UCSB, which I left for a year after the Bank of America was burned down. The best thing about that period was that I met my wife to be, Christy (just celebrated our 36th anniversary). She was the girl downstairs on Del Playa, and there were two other marriages between the upstair guys and the downstairs girls. I graduated in poli sci by defaultin 1974, worked in DC during Watergate for a Congressman on the House Judiciary Committee, then went on to law school at UC Berkeley where I graduated in 1977. I worked for the California Attorney General's office in the environemental and consumer affairs division and then practiced law for a couple of years in a private firm doing civil litigation... then I got the sailing bug.
My wife and I lived on a sailboat in the Berkeley marina during law school, and decided to take a break from the legal practice and buy a sailboat in Fort Lauderdale. We sailed through the Bahamas, England, Spain, Portugal, and up and down the East Coast of the US for a couple of years before settling down in the Florida Keys. Our son, Trey, was born in Fort Lau...Expand for more
derdale, and our daughter, Chelsea, was born in Key West, both while we were living on a sailboat.
We built a home in the Keys on the water with our boat tied up in the back (front) yard, and spent 25 wonderful years, before moving back to Santa Barbara in 2002. Our business, Biodiesel Industries, was focused more on projects in California, and it was a good time to move.
We enjoy being in Santa Barbara. My brother, Paul, and his family live here as do many of our college friends. My business takes me on projects all over the world, and into some pretty desolate areas, India, Borneo, China, Thailand, Philippines, Haiti, Latin America... I love it! My son (Duke '04) works in the business with me, and my daughter is a chemical engineer (CAL '08). My favorite activities are traveling, hiking, sailing, wine tasting, getting together with friends and family, and any combination of the above. Life is good.
Sorry to have missed the reunion, I didn't hear about it until a few weeks before hand, and had already made plans for our family to get together with Dennis Fitzpatrick and his family at Lake Tahoe... next time.
