Ruth's Story
Hey!
This is Ruth Neimeyer Dale. I graduated from CHS in 1969, went to SMS, and then taught elementary school for 30 years. After retiring early, I have two part time jobs. I have my own tutoring company called The Second Half. I have students of all ages who come for either tutoring or enrichment classes. I also work for the Sedalia School Foundation. Working in that position 20 hours a week, I am the editor or CONNECTIONS newsletter for supporters of the Sedalia Schools and for the graduates of the Smith-Cotton High School. I manage 9,000 addresses in a database and care for S-C memorabilia. It's strange that I know more about the alums here than in my own alma mater!
I've been divorced for about 16 years. I've had a wonderful significant other for about 15 of those. He has Multiple Sclerosis and I have been with him ever since he was diagnosed. He's a farmer and former banker. He is very sweet, kind, and patient and is a handsome 61 yr old man.
I have one son, John William, who is 27. He got married in October. He is in the Army National Guard, joined in 2000, and has been on active duty in Bosnia and Iraq. He is about 6'2" tall!! and is very lean. I never thought I'd have a...Expand for more
child who had long legs and height! I am very proud of him. As he grew up he reminded me some of Larry Shank because John sang and danced wonderfully and was in all of the show choirs in high school and college.
I've discovered that our experience at CHS was very different from most. We had a great bunch to hang out with and we felt very safe and secure for the most part. There was a great feeling there.
Some of you my remember my Dad, Ed Neimeyer, pastor of the Methodist Church across from the school. He passed away 2 years ago. Churches and pastors aren't so welcome in schools today, are they?
When I heard that Larry Shank died in the summer, I was really shaken! I really loved that guy! I am thankful that I saw him at the last reunion I attended. I only wish I'd seen him one more time. I bet Karen is feeling the loneliness and eery quiet around their house now. I can only imagine!
If you'd like to hear him sing one more time, go to YouTube and search for Larry Shank. I am saving the video of his singing the National Anthem; I've never heard it done better. What a gift of humor and voice he was given!
I hope you are well and happy. I'd like to hear from you, if you have time. Ruth
