Ruth's Story

After graduation, I went to NVCC and worked around the DC area and moved to Atlanta, GA for three years to work. In 1974 I moved home and went to work on Capital Hill. I met my husband, Bo, then who was a student at Georgetown School of Dentistry. After he graduated we moved to Syracuse, NY where he did a residency for one year and then to Charleston, SC, for two years for his pediatric dentistry residency. My daughter Rebecca was born in Charleston. After he graduated we moved back to Syracuse and opened up his pediatric dentistry practice. My husband grew up in Rochester, NY. We have lived in the same house for the past 23 years. It is on a lake and we have enjoyed that so much. We have had a great life. We have three daughters, Rebecca, Rachel and Robyn. Rebecca is an attorney, Rachel is an accountant and Robyn is getting her Masters in "reading specialist" at U of Pitt. Her boyfriend is in dental school and we are thrilled. He is planning on being a "pediatric" specialist and if all goes well will join our practice - finally an EXIT strategy! Rebecca is married and we have two amazing grandbabies. I love being "Mimi"! the game! We have always been into horses as a family. At one point, our whole family rode. Rebecca is a three time World Champion (quarter horse) in Equitation over Fences. And I was Reserve World Champion in hunter hack (OK, don't get too excited it was for the over 50 age group but it was a thrill of a lifetime for me). Horses have been a big part of our lives. We also are part owners in a stallion. We are still working. I have always worked in the dental practice. My husband sees patients only 12 days a month so we have lots of time to escape the brutal Syracuse winters and have a second home in Longboat Key, FL, where I am as I write. I have been blessed with good health, a "prince" of a husband and children who have always and continue to give us great joy and the icing on the cake are our grandbabies. My mom died in January of 2001, but dad at 82 can run circle around us all. I never saw a man grieve like he did. He remarried last year and is still in the State Senate. I visit Manassas often and have always been close to my family. I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion and I wish you would all write out your profiles so we can all see where you have been. Ruth
