Ruth's Story
Life
I stayed in Va. Beach until 1981. I married Jerry Wilson (a very handsome sailor) in 1965. We had 2 children, Michael and Madeline.
I worked as a bookkeepper/Income Tax Consultant for several years.I started working for Sears as an Audit Clerk. When the opportunity to take training to become a Service Technician, I took the leap. I was the 1st woman to go on the road repairing major appliances in the Southern territory for Sears (there were women in the shops and working on TVs before me).
We moved to WV when Jerry retired from the Navy. We both attended Fairmont State College and became teachers. I taught 1 year in Charleston, WV. We moved to North Carolina where we lived and taught for 5 years.
We moved back to WV. I went to school again (at West Virginia University), then back into teaching. I currently live in White Sulphur Springs. I taught at Anthony Correctional Center for 10 years, and then in a Middle School (give me my prisoners any day!) for 6 years. This fall (2012) I will start teaching at Greenbrier West High School in Greenbrier County, WV. I am looking forward to working ...Expand for more
with high school age students.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I have 6 granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren.
And now my story takes a turn. My husband fought cancer for 4 years. He beat Prostrate Cancer, he beat Leukemia (AML - the toughest one to stop), dealt with the after effects of chemo-therapy for 2+ years and lost his battle on June 16, 2009 to a brain tumor.
I am searching for ways to get in touch with former school mates. If you are interested you can contact me through this site, at rlw053 at symbol .gmail.com Give me a way to get hold of you and I will get back to you.
And now another big step. I have a12th greatgrandchild. Another boy. Eleventh & twelfth greatgrandsons (ages 3 and not quite 1) have the same mother and live in the same town I am moving to (the big move is going to Florida). I will be living with my daughter. Englewood is the name of the town. It is on the Gulf Coast, north of Ft. Myers and south of Sarasota.
Wish me luck and no alligators in the neighborhood.
