Ryan's Story
After I graduated I went to trade school to become a recording engineer. While I was in school I worked at the Troubadour in Hollywood as a live sound engineer which lead to a freelancing career as a live sound engineer which lead to going on the road doing live sound.. The trade school I went to was a 1-year course and right after graduation I landed a job at MCA Records/Publishing. At the age of 20 I was promoted to first engineer and stayed at MCA for almost 5 years where I worked with many different artist; Patty Labelle, Glades Knight, Wilson/Phillips. I left MCA to join EMI Record/Publishing where I was hired as Chief Engineer to continue building my reputation as a Engineer/Producer. EMI was a bit more Rock and was able to Engineer for Lita Ford, Megadeth, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper to name drop a few. After about 9 years of working for a major company I wanted to try something different. I worked with a Pop/Punk band named NOFX, If you have kids that skateboard or into bands like Greenday, they will know probably know NOFX. At the time I didn't have any idea who they were but over time found out they are one of the biggest punk bands (on an independent record label) in the world. Selling millions of records in their "still on going career" I became their Producer/Engineer /Mixer for all the studio records.
After leaving the Punk world I moved to Scottsdale Arizona and owned a full Production Recordi...Expand for more
ng Studio called "Crush Recording" crushrecording.com
Working on Guitar Hero 3 to Jay-Z its been a hell of a ride...so far.
At the moment I'm Producing bands from all over the world and that might be the reason I'm single again...total work-a-holic.
I'm now in my 50's and needed to stop working 17 hours a day, 7 days a week and start enjoying a normal life. I moved back to La in 2010 and in January 2019 I'm now a recording engineer at Nickelodean working on Spongebob and many other animated shows.
High School was extremely difficult, I was picked on quite a bit and felt like I just didn't fit in. As soon as I started in the music business and working at the Troubadour (underage by the way) everyone took me under their wing and really gave me a good foundation and work ethic. Meeting David Lee Roth at the club in 1984 he took me aside and said "I heard you're doing well here, keep going and you will reach your dreams!" Thanks Dave, I took your advice!
From that point on I only looked forward not back......I've taken the approach to reach far beyond the stars because the stars are to close. In my eyes Success is Fleeting but Failure is Forever....If you put all your energy into something you love there is no such thing as failure. I haven't failed in a long long time.
Remember sometimes taking the easy road may not get you where you want to go.
Hope to hear from my friends!
Take care,
Ryan Greene
