Sallie's Story
The Sixties
This was quite a decade. The generation that came of age during this time,were transformed by events that occurred outside of Columbia County. The innocence that began the decade was on the wane by the end.
Peyton Place, the TV drama, was considered risque in 1960, and of course watched by everyone, The "Theme From a Summer Place" was one of our favorite songs and still brings back sweet memories. "Wake Up Litt...Expand for more
le Susie" by the Everly Brothers was another favorite. A big date was a movie in Hudson at the Community Theatre and a bite afterwards at Kozels. Everybody went to Kozels. There were some serious relationships in high school-some lasted and some didn't. Most of us couldn't wait to leave Columbia County. After a few years, we returned to raise our families in this community where we felt safe and called home. The world was changing and Chatham was, well, pretty much like it had been when we left.
