Sally's Story

Life HELLO GIRLS and BOYS--- AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, I BECAME A NUN. BIG SURPRISE. I STAYED IN THE ORDER UNTIL I WAS 21, THEN WENT HOME, MARRIED A SAILOR, HAD ONE CHILD AND PUT THE SAILOR OUT TO SEA AFTER 21 YEARS. I FINALLY COMPLETED COLLEGE-KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY- IN 1995 WITH A SECONDARY ED DEGREE. STUDENT TEACHING SCARED ME SO BAD THAT I WENT BACK TO SCHOOL TO GET A MASTERS IN ENGLISH AND TAUGHT AT KSTATE FOR 5 YEARS. LOVED THAT JOB, BUT FINALLY GAVE IT UP BECAUSE THE PAY WAS SO BAD. KEPT WORKING AT MY 33 YEAR JOB IN A LUMBERYARD/HOME CENTER, DOING THE ACCOUNTING AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS. MARRIED THE BEST MAN ON THE PLANET; LEVI WAS A BARBER AND A LUTHERAN...Expand for more
PASTOR. I WAS USUALLY HIS ORGANIST. ALSO GOT TO BE THE CHOIR MISTRESS, A JOB THAT I HAD BACK IN THE CONVENT. PLUS SA CHANGE PLUS C'EST LA MEME CHOSE. LEVI DIED IN '04 OF MELANOMA AND SO NOW I AM RELICT. MY SON DANIEL IS PLAYING TRUMPET ON THE PRINCESS CRUISE LINES- REAL CUSHY JOB. I KEEP ASKING IF THEY NEED AN ENGLISH TEACHER. WE COULD READ MOBY-DICK OR AN OPEN BOAT. I'M GETTING USED TO BEING THE OLDER GENERATION, ALTHOUGH IT'S HARD FOR A FLOWER CHILD TO BE THOUGHT OF AS THE ESTABLISHMENT. STILL KEEP IN TOUCH WITH SOME OF THE EX-NUNS THROUGH EMAIL, AND HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE SETTLING DOWN TO HAPPY LIVES SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE YOU LOVE AND WHO LOVE YOU. SJJ

Happy Birthday to Sergei Rachmaninov. He wrote beautiful pianos works but you had to have huge hands to play them. Now I see why. He was 6'6". Caused me many hours of grief.

"Ich bin ein Berliner" Day - 1963. Let's all be Berliners and have sausage or schnitzel, rouladen and spaetzle, or at least pretzels and bier. Start early, don't forget German Sweet Chocolate cake.
Last night I put out crackers and some old olives for the critters in the ravine. Somebody came by and ate the olives, leaving pits neatly on the board. Probably old Opossum.
