Sam's Story
Left school in 73 and joined the Navy. Sailed around the world three times. Visited five continents, not sure how many countries.
In 75 the ship I was on, was called to dock at the port in Beirut, Lebanon. This was early April of that year. Our assignment was to evac U.S. interests. I got to see this beautiful city before it's destruction during the Lebanese civil war. Later that same year while in Barcelona, Spain I witnessed a country in turmoil after the death of Francisco Franco who had been in office for over forty years.
In 1976 while returning to the U.S. and about 100 miles off the coast of South Carolina in what I describe as a really bad storm the ship was hit by an 80 ft wave. It was nearly capsized, this ...Expand for more
was the first time I was really scared for my life. It took two weeks to sail around the storm and get to the port. The following year (77) I was discharged.
I returned to Fort Worth for a few months and then moved to Oklahoma, got married in 78 and then moved to Amarillo, Texas. There we started a family, first born was a boy, he is now 25 years old with a 4 year old boy of his own. Second born was a girl, she is now 19 years old and in college. During those years I had a Staffing Firm, in 2002 divorced.
I returned to Fort Worth in 2005 and then moved to Irving 2007. I met a wonderful woman and have started the second chapter of my life.
My life to date has been one big adventure and I am not ready for it to end.
