Workplace
I used to do a lot of electronic circuit design but now I'm a network admin at FSU.
Military
George Jenkins and I joined USAF in December, 1971.
At the time were were both married, fathers of small children and attending college. However, our draft lottery numbers were very low. We estimated it would not be long until we got our little "Greetings" cards in the mail. George signed up for radar repair while I signed up for microwave radio repair. We suffered 6 arduous weeks of Basic Training. After Basic, we went to Tech School at Keesler Air Force Base.

Towards the end of Tech School, we got our Dream Sheets; George was assigned to Jacksonville Naval Air Station while I was assigned to a remote radar site named Yoza Dake, Okinawa. I had to wonder where it was. My Dad just laughed since he was on Okinawa during WWII.
I was fortunate in that I was able to move my wife and daughter to Okinawa. We lived in the Okinawan community and I commuted out to the site.
Yoza Dake was eventually reverted back to Japanese control. I was reassigned to the microwave shop up at Kadena Air Base where I spent the remainder of the tour. While there I earned my Sargent's stripes.
In March 1974 I was reassigned to Shaw Air Force Base near Sumter, SC. This was a complete change in culture and environment. Even my work was different. Instead of working at fixed sites I spent my remaining time playing Boy Scout with Tactical Microwave gear. That is, we would deploy to remote locations around the South, set up camp and the station. We would baby sit it for the duration of the exercise. It wasn't really that bad but the schedules didn't allow for any other planned activities in life so I didn't re-enlist.
