Sam's Story
Life
My wife of 44 years and i live in the old house i grew up living in. I have 3 kids,a daughter that lives in beaumont, a daughter that lives in austin, and a son that lives in port neaches and have 5 grand kids. OK i have to mention my wifes dog, sophie. While in 9th grade i started roller skating and hanging out at the rink in port neches. I met a lot of good people there and would like to hear about them. I got good at the races and later competed on the national level at speedskating. A bunch of us skaters started playing Roller Hockey and we did pretty good at it too(our team the Nighthawks)ended up winning the National Championship 4 times Got 2nd twice and 4th once. I played 13years and would have played longer but i discovered Dirt Bikes and in 3 years time i broke my arm/wrist then my back and after that it was just to painful to practice enough to be good enough to make the team, so i quit hockey and did something really dumb,i kept riding dirt only in the woods. To this day ridding dirt bikes is the most fun thing i have ever done. I raced motocross a while, gave that up,to painful. Woods riding, the most fun. I have riden at several national and state parks in Texas,in Louisiana,in Arkanas, ...Expand for more
in Colorado, and Oklahoma. I could have taken my bike to New York when i lived up there(by Albany)but desided to concentrate on work. Here at home i joined a club to have some body to ride with(SETORR) and race with. Club would have a few races a year, and some members would race Endours state wide(to much for me). The last club race i rode was april or may 2000 I was 58 and a little slow to heal. I took a job in Colorado and took my bike along and that led to slideing off a mountain road above Rifle,Col. and breaking 4-5 ribs, colur bone and my shoulder, when i stood up my left shoulder was 4 inches lower than rightside. Bad thing about riding alone is when you get hurt, you have to get yourself to hospital before you die. Did i tell you i also partial collapsed a lung. My wife had me brought home and to Houston for surery/repair. I missed 6 months of work and as much as i love my bike i sold it. When i first went back to work,my left arm was very weak(only press 8lbs) but needed the money. Thats why i retired 2 yr later,to hard and painfull to keep going.I'm kind of lost now, can't do the things that i enjoyed the most. I'm looking for something but i don't know what. Hope i find it soon, before i go crazy.
