Samantha's Story

After high school I joined the Navy. I went to boot camp in Orlando, Florida and then got stationed in Memphis, Tennessee. I studied air traffic controlling in the Navy and mechanics. I went to Norfolk, Virginia and I got married. In Sept 1987 had a beautiful son. In 1989 got divorced and moved back to Tipp. In Aug 1993 got married, moved to Mentor, Ohio had two more children, Kaite (May 1994), and Nick (Dec 1996) and in Dec 2005 my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Eleven months later, I was a widow (Nov 2006). Two months later my mother died, and four days before she died my father had a stroke, so I moved back to Tipp and have been here since Mar 2007. While in Cleveland, I got a degree in Mathematics. I worked at Progressive Insurance for almost eight years. My late husband was the assistant city manager of Mentor so learned a lot about city government, zoning and planning. I started a business as an artist in 2000 that I still do occasionally for stress relief. I got married in Nov 2008. Just put my house up for sale Jan 2009 with plans on moving to Jackson Center and building a house on a lake. I bought a piece of land on a lake there in July 2008 to eventually build on. In 2008, I started a business as real estate investor. I travel about one week a month and do research the rest of the time. It is a great way to see the country. I have three employees that work for me and a crew of real estate agents, hopefully this year I will beable to add a few more employees. I work for myself and make all the rules, and have no one to blame when something goes wrong. I like it that way. Not that I am a control freak but I get tired of the politics that goes on at work. We have no politics. Everyone does their job and get...Expand for more
s along. Occasionally, I teach classes for something to do, but I have to be busy at all times. My oldest son attended the Citadel in South Carolina and is a police officer in New York. My daughter is a freshman at Fairlawn High School and plans on attending Harvard to study Law. My youngest son is in sixth grade at Tipp and hopes to be an engineer. I am a very proud mother and as independent as I have always been. I consider myself very successful. I may not have followed the path that I thought I would have taken in high school but I am very happy on the path I am on. In my spare time I love to travel, photography, gambling, creating art, spending time playing board games with the kids, and attending high sporting events (my husband is the athletic director). I have learned a lot of things in life along the way. And it is true that if life gives you lemons make lemonade, but I would add make it your own brand of lemonade not the same as everyone else's. If you look at life through a negative perspective, you will teach your children to do the same. Never give up, God has a plan for everyone, He only lets us see it one day at a time. Try to learn something new every day or you have wasted the brain you have been given. Always be true to yourself. Don't treat other bad because you may have to depend on them for something. Always offer to help, and be sincere at your offer. You are only as good as your word. You don't get to pick your family, but you do get to pick your friends so make them good picks. Beauty is skin deep, and ugly is to the bone; be beautiful and don't judge others, for there is only one judge and that is God. Never rely on tomorrow, enjoy life today and make each day count.
