Sammy's Story
Life
My wife Barbara & I met when attending Dallas, TX. tech school & church summer youth series. Married 58 yrs. 9 grandchildren, 2 left in college. Retired 15 May 2013 when I received my first SS check after selling several companies. Our first great-granddaughter Imogen came into our lives April 2023. Doing family genealogy and enjoying it every day.
My Kids
are all married, two daughters and two boys, youngest son age 32 died on April 17, 2011. Got 9 grand-kids, 5 boys & 4 girls. Names are TC, Trevor, Tyler, Brooklyn, Katelyn, Tenley, Ethan, Sydney & Trey, who is the youngest at 5.
It is very hard to lose one of your children.
My Job
is semi-retired President / CEO. My remaining company S.S.T. Plastics, Inc. manufactures custom plastics products. We design tooling and new products for medium size companies, in the auto aftermarket, air conditioning industry, exercise eqpt industry, aircraft ind., We take ideas and turn designs into products. This is the fifth business I have owned since 1970. I enjoy business, except when it goes through a recessionary period. Our businesses are family owned and operated by my eldest son.
I did own Qualitex Seating & Mfg. LP. (qualitex dot com) a 40 year old co. which was a specialty seating manufacturing company, that makes all types of vehicular aftermarket seating for pickups, SUV & Vans, Marine Tug Boats, Horse Trailers, Armored Trucks and Commercial Trucks, etc. I...Expand for more
owned it for 10 years then sold it in Feb 2013 and its now located in CA.
The next time you see the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile, you can say you know the guy that made those seats as well as the ROV control pod that found the Titanic had our seats for the Pilot and Co-pilot. Our seats were national award winning designer seats for three years running in customized 18 wheelers. OR...when your grand-kids are riding the air conditioned school bus and they feel the cool air; we might have made the covers for the inside a/c unit. OR...your new Polaris ATV may have our heater in it.
College
Left San Angelo and went to Dallas to attend M.T.I. and obtained an Electronics Engineering Degree, then married in 1967.
Workplace
My first job during tech school was TV & Radio repair, next was at Texas Instruments in military electronics radar & sonar, then LTV/Rayetheon Systems working on defense projects & prototypes for NASA, had deferments. Then computers at Remcom Systems, started my first business in 1972, developed an Arts & Crafts Wholesale co. that sold crafts to variety stores, sold it to a New York investment group, then had 2 shopping centers and started the chain of Amber's Craft stores and sold them to my partner, then owned a Pizza Inn franchise and sold it in 1989. Then in 1990 started a plastics co., bought an existing seating co. and started a metal fabrications co. Now I go to my office and work on my family genealogy.
