Samuel's Story
Workplace
After military service (US Navy-AX2), went to college, graduated in 1966 BS in Accounting, went to work for my fathers Accounting firm. He had a stroke and sold firm. I decided not to stay with firm, it was primarily taxes. I hated TAXES. Went to work for concrete block company, it didn't work out. I moved to Indianapolis, went to work for large national CPA firm as an auditor. Passed CPA exam, got MBA, became CPA Senior Auditor. Traveled out of town about 80-90% of the time. Got tired of traveling, went to work for small regional CPA firm in Owensboro, KY. Ending up traveling 75% of the time due to my unique skills in forensic accounting and auditing. Got tired of travel. Went to work for Anaconda Aluminum in Sebree KY in 1974. In 1976 was promoted to Corp. office in Louisville, KY. served in various ...Expand for more
progressive jobs in finance/accounting. In 1980 I was promoted to Plant Controller for large (1,200 employees)aluminum rolling plant in Terre Haute IN. Was transferred to Project Controller for $450 million Plant being built in Russellville KY. Work week of 60 to 70 hours cost me my marriage. Was promoted to Project Mgr. for constrution of plants in Memphis TN and Tucson AZ. Asked to get off Projects because I had custody of kids. Hours and travel don't mix with being single parent
Became Plant Controller in 1985 for new plant being commercialized in Greenville SC. Remarried in 1989.
Plant was sold in Dec. 1989 so I retired as VP of Finance. Did consulting most for P&G in NC and Albemarle Chemical from 1992 to 2002. Retired again in early 2002.
I live on Lake Hartwell in Anderson County SC, and snow bird in Hudson FL
