Diane's Story
I taught Special Ed. for 19 years at Dallas High School,also one year at Fairview Hospital, then quit and bought a restaurant for three years. Sold it when my dad got sick. Ran his automotive business with my mom for five years, doing all the mechanic work with Mom's help. Then I went back to teaching. Retired from Salem-Keizer School District where I taught kids with severe conduct disorders and severe reading disabilities. Retired to take care of my mom in 2005. Married Sam in 1967. Still live next door to the house I grew up in. Love antiques, flowers, decorating, family events. No children but lots of foster kids from my classrooms through the years. Keep busy with rentals and taking care of family members. I lost my husband Sam on April 2nd. I miss him terribly. n cars, property, and taking care of my elderly and ailing family members. He was funny, kind. generous, very intelligent, and had so many talents. He could do woodworking, copper art, stained glass, had a fabulous garden which he grew from seed, did wood carving, quilting, sewing stufffed animals, clothes, and he made beautiful victorian lampshades. He was also a great cook. He catered barbeques for as many as 500 people and also helped me cater huge banquets when we owned the restaurant. He made them special with his carved fruit, ice fountains, etc. He was also able to do oil painting,made water features, and rock gardens. He loved trains and made several model train cities. He worked on the Valley and Siletz railroad for many years, Willamette Valley Railway, Burlington Northern, and Oregon Zoo Railway. His talents were endless as was his kind and giving heart.
