Sandi's Story

Life Left New Jersey in 1991 for Florida,as my son, Michael, was attending the University of Miami. I settled in Ft.Myers, on the west coast, and decided to go back to college, this time for nursing! Have been a registered nurse in the operating room for 11 years and love every minute of it. I still sing whenever I get the chance. Have done some dinner theatre here; can't get it out of my system.Life is good! Looking forward to reconnecting with fellow alums and can't wait for the 45th(can you believe it?) reunion.Hope everyone will be there! See you on October 10, 2009!! College THe first time I attended college, following high school, I couldn't wait to get away from home. A music major, I enjoyed my courses but hated the hard work. Getting away from home for the first time, I partied too much and after two years, decided college wasn't for me. I returned to college thirty years later, with a new major, nursing. This time I was an incredible student,(amazing what a little maturity does)and I successfully completed my Associate in Science, Nursing degree in 1998. I became a registered nurse in the operating room and love it! I still enjoy music and occasionally sing my patients to sleep! I returned to school in 2005 in an RN-BSN program at Florida Gulf Coast University and received my degree, Magna Cum Laude (who would believe it) on my son's birthday, 12/15/07! I have been published in numerous nursing magazines for my innovative program, Sew Angelic. We make surgical caps for all the children having surgery in the hopes of alleviating anxiety. aking caps! Workplace I moved to Florida in 1991, and decided I wanted a new career. I returned to college in 1993, and gradated in 1998 with an Associate in Science, Nursing degree. I became a registered nurse in 1998 and I work in the operating room at HealthPark Medical Center, doing cases ranging from pediatric surgery to open heart surgery. I was promoted to Pediatric Clinical Specialist at the ripe age of 56. I was definitely a LATE BLOOMER!! I love my life! Personal Story My significant other, Gary, and I met at the hospital where he was a first-assist in open heart surgery. He was divorced with custody of his 3 children. We have been together almost 14 years and I have been the mother to his children, Jeff, Pam and Julie. We also have an almost 2 year old granddaughter, Rebekah. My son Michael was married on March 7, 2009 to his beautiful wife, Shari. Jeff will be married in January, 2010 to Cindy, Pam was married in June, 2008 to Matt, and Julie just graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa and is seeing Michael! WHEW! They keep us busy and broke! Update: I lost my "husband," Gary, on December 10, 2010 after a long illness. It has been a most difficult year. Prior to his passing, my son presented me with a beautiful grandson, Jacob Andrew. They live in Coconut Creek, FL. My daughter, Pam, who llives in Euless, Tx presented me with grandson, Caden Matthew, on July 26, 2011 and my youngest, Julie, is getting married on March 24, 2012, We all miss Gary every day, but he has been with us for all our blessed events and I know he will be with me when I walk Julie down the aisle!
