Sandra's Story
Life
I met my husband Mike while in my grade 12 year and we got married a year after graduation. He was one of the army guys from Kapyong Barracks from the 2PPCLI on the south end.
We moved (got posted) to Wainwright AB in Jan of 1986 when I was 5 months pregnant with my 1st. Our 2nd was also born there, both were girls. Yikes, what a small town! We drove in at night and it looked really big ;-) One road for the main street and that was it. This is where small towns grew on me. I was a stay at home mom there.
We were off to Edmonton, AB in 1990. Actually Lancaster Park which was the Air Force base then, just 2 minutes north of Edmonton. When the girls got into school I worked evenings as the assistant manager of Just for Lovers for a couple of years.
In 1995 we moved to Masset, BC on the Queen Charlotte Is...Expand for more
lands. What a beautiful place! The population was 1400. We spent a year there before the base was closed down. Small towns, I was hooked. I worked as a teachers aid at Tahaygen Elementary which schooled many of the Haida Nation children. It was a great cultural experience for our girls.
Our last move was in 1996 to Sooke, BC on Vancouver Island, just west of Victoria. I first worked at Sooke Flyer Force helping set up a new company, then changed jobs to work at the Sooke Harbour House in housekeeping. I was the head housekeeper in my final year. I'm currently taking some "me" time. Mike retired here from the Canadian Forces in 2000 after 21 years. Both our girls finished school and graduated, and are both just finishing their 2nd year of college. And now I'm looking for seat sales so I can come to the reunion ;-)
