Sandra's Story

Life whats it like to be 49?? today, its wonderful. after high school, i dropped out of college, and moved to japan to be with my family. i spent 4 years not doing much but partying. wasted youth, but i had fun. {back then, being a disco queen was fun} i moved back to annapolis,md in 79, and have been on my own ever since. i never got married, {was asked a couple of times, but i never did find mr right.} i never had children, which has been a shock to all that know me. but, i was too busy partying and working. i have had alot of loss in my life. my mother passed away in 86, my father in 2001, and my sister, debbi, in 2004. that leaves me as the oldest in the diltz family. pretty scary. anyway, in feb 1999, my family interviened and got me into treatment for drugs and alcohol. of course, i didnt think i was that bad, but they showed me that i had been in a fog for 30 years. after all, i learned how to drink in germany. i moved to florida after 28 days in treatment to live in a halfway house. i stayed there for ten months, and have been in florida since. i miss my family in md and pa, but i love florida. i live about 5 miles from the ocean in a little cottage house. live is good today. i dont have everything i want, but my God supplies me with everything i need. what else could i ask for?? Workplace after dropping out of college, my future in teaching was not possible. so, i turned to the next best thing. restaurant management. i worked in just about every kind of restaurant that you can think of from fast food, to cafeteria, to high end. then, i hurt my back, and it all went down the tubes. i had to start over. i now am a department manager with wal-mart, and have been working for the company for ten years. i am just now catching up with...Expand for more
my salary from ten years ago. however, i love my job, and the company has been good to me. i transfered to florida seven years ago, and i know that if i ever decide to move, i will have a job if i want it. wow that was two years ago. i guess its time to update my profile. whats it like to be 51? not much different than 49. still havent met mr. right, but still having fun looking. the last man i dated was a 38 year old, so i must be doing something right. Still got it after all these years. but, he was not mr. right. i guess he was just mr. right now. anyway, i recently quit my job at wal-mart after 12 years with the company, and i am currently working for a drug and alcohol rehab here in florida. using my years of experiece to get other alcoholics and addicts into treatment so they can get started on the path of recovery. i just celebrated my 9 years of being clean and sober on feb 5th. it seems like it was just yesterday when i walked into treatment. my life has changed so much in the last 9 years, i cant even describe it. i dont have everything i want ( i never will), however, my higher power gives me everything i need. its amazing. anyway, thats a little update on me. the rest of the diltz family is great. they all still live up in the md/pa area. all my neices and nephews are awesome, and growing up fast. they threw an over the hill party for my 51st birthday. i told them 50 was the top of the hill so 51 must be the start of the decline, but i sure dont feel like i am starting to decline.. i started belly dancing classes two weeks ago, and love it. i hope someone reads this, and e-mails me back. its 4:46am, and i just had 2 cups of coffee ( i work overnight for now) so i am rather chatty but i must get some work done. ta ta sandy
