Sandra's Story
Married (for first time) 10/12/02 in Primate Reserve of the Philadelphia Zoo. Husband, Dave Schaffer, is a retired pediatric opthalmologist and very active volunteer at the Phila. Zoo, as am I.
We have 3 kids - a yellow lab (Dune), domestic short haired grey and white cat (Griff), and an African Gray parrot (Thunder), who bonded w/Dave when he was working in the Childrens Zoo in '00. Thunder "retired" from the Zoo in '03 and moved into OUR zoo!
I'm a 3 time grandmother, thanks to Dave's kids. Lily (6) and Nahan (3) live in NYC and Natalie (5) lives in SFO.

Phila. My career has been good to me and has brought me satisfaction.
We love to travel and have travelled together to Namibia, Botswanna, the Galapagos Is. and Equador, Costa Rica, So. CA., and ME. We celebrated Dave's 75th birthday and our 10th anniversary early when we returned to Namibia in February, 2012. We named Griff after the endangered Cape Griffon Vulture of Namibia. Dune was named after the sand dunes of Sossusvlei, Namibia. And, of course, Thunder is an African Gray. Yes, there's a theme here!
