Sandra's Story

I rcv'd. a B.A. in Social Work/Spanish minor from Valparaiso Univ., in Valparaiso (N.W.), IN. I have a generic teaching certificate in E.S.L. from the Univ. of WI-Madison. Yeah! I have an M.A. in International Relations from St. Mary's Univ. in San Antonio, TX (majored in Russian hx). I have teaching certificates from Huston-Tillotson (black college) in Austin, TX. I have a lifetime teaching credential from TX, had one in CA (elem. & Spanish) & HAVE an elem. teaching one in OR. Have 1 dau. who is 26. Have 1 grand-dau. who is 3 1/2. She was born on the same day I was, except years later! Special gift from the universe! I have 2 cats: Calliope & Simba (came pre-named). Calliope is 21 1/2-lives on love & Simba is 17 1/2! I run a geriatric ward. They are BOTH mostly healthy! Live in the Eugene, OR area now. Hate the cold sometimes. I've developed asthma & SEVERE allergies from this. Lucky me! Have a job working p.t. with a non-profit soc. svc. agency, a few hrs./week & also sub teach as NO perm. teaching jobs in this DEPRESSED state of the Union! Gov. Kitzhaber is back in office, again, & says he wants more jobs & healtahcare for all Oregonians, so MAYBE we'll prosper more under him! I'm healthy, have good friends, went to Sacramento, CA over Thanksgiving 2011 to see my dau./grand-dau./friends & to Austin over the 2010 winter holidays to see friends who are part of my family! Have traveled (in the past) to most states in the U.S., Canadian provinces, Mexico, Central America, most of Western Europe & some of Eastern Europe, along with Polynesia. Want to travel to what was E. Germany/Poland next, for mate...Expand for more
rnal genealogical research. My ancestors in the 1600 & 1700's were Jewish. No wonder I had SUCH an affinity starting in H.S! Conversions & intermarriage led to being raised in another church. I attend the Unitarian Fellowship & Quaker silent mtgs.. now-where I'm MOST comfortable. I also like the 1st United Methodist Church in Eugene. I also am grateful for 12-Step programs & my best friend who used to be my room-mate. She moved out to take care of her adult dau. & family who were hurting financially! Looking for another good room-mate, but around here, they're hard to find! Am on the Unitarian Social Justice Committee, involved in politics (one of these days I'd like to run for office), starting a book group, love the local PWP grp. & their activities, am in a Spanish conversation group, practice sign language & French with friends, in a Song Circle & joined a Jewish genealogy group. I try to sleep when I can! Hope things are well for all who read this. I'm planning on attending the 40th H.S. reunion, so maybe I'll see some of you then (those from elem. school days, too-went to Van Hise Elem. & Jr. H.S. Had Mrs. Karnes for Kinder., Miss Anderson for 1st grade & a Mrs. Anderson for 3rd grade. 4th grade was a divorced teacher-we studied Hawaii. 5th gr. was Mrs. Charleston-I LOVED her class. 6th gr. I can't remember her name but we had spelling bees that I REALLY enjoyed-ANYONE else reading this in those classes?) Trying to lose 20 lbs. by reunion time-thyroid disorder added them on! I'd love to get some NICE e-mails from anyone who cares to contact me. From the now sunny & warm N.W! Regards & namaste! Sandi Mann
