Sandra's Story
Life
Hey, you'all:
In the picture, I'm the blonde on the far right. It's true, blondes do have more fun!!
I just retired in January 2007 from the nuclear power industry. In June, I shall have been married for 44 yrs. to the same man I met at Hunters Point, CA. We live in Woodstock, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, GA. We have two grown children and three grandchildren. If I had known grandchildren we're so much fun, I'd had them first! The oldest son is getting married Sept. 9, 2007, finally! Honeymoon in Bath, England.
I just came back from a visit to Oakland. My two living aunts have been sick and I stayed with my mother's youngest sister, off Davis Dr., San Leandro. I still have lots of family in CA. (see March 2008 update)
I drove out to Concord to visit Angie Munoz Guerra (Class of '59). We have been friends since kindergarden (4 yrs. old) at Lockwood Elementary. Oakland sure has changed. I attended Fremont's 25th reunion, but unfortunately wasn' t able to attend the last reunion. Maybe the 50th!! I was looking for friend, Madelyn Gedrose. They said she wasn't on sign in list. Found out later she was! We corresponded then I lost her address. : - {
In 2003, I took two of my grandchildren to Oakland and we stayed with my sister-in-law off of 35th Ave. They loved CA. We went to Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and all over the bay area. They learned to like calamari and clam chowder in a bread bowl! I wish I didn't live so far away from my family and friends.
Angie came to visit us in 2001. My husband and I are fixin' our house up to sell it. We are planning to move to St. Simons Island, GA where we can ride a bicycle to the grocery store or to the beach and bank. Atlanta has grown so much and you need a automobile to go anywhere. essways (freeways) on the island. We are looking for the slow, peaceful life. Lots of walks on the beach. I am planning on working at a Ace Hardware garden nursery there. I have been doing a lot of gardening lately. I brought back a lot of cuttings and a few plants from CA and trying to root them. Even Meyer Lemon cuttings from both aunties. Oakland has changed so much and the streets and expressway is full of potholes or graffiti! Oakland has been trashed! No wonder most of you have moved away! Give me the life of sand in my toes and cool breezes at SSI!!
Workplace
Retired from nuclear power industry in January 2007. Worked with word processors and then computers and grapics. Worked in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat, Corel Draw and (Ooops! Having a senior moment - I can't remember the program!!) I have always worked with engineers - started with soil testing engineers (grads of Georgia Tech) and ended with nuclear power engineers (all ex-Navy nucs)
March 2008 Update - I just came back from another visit to Oakland. My two aunts who had been sick passed away within four days of each other. I still have lots of family in CA. Stayed with niece in
Redding and visited Mt. Shasta! Stayed at eldest aunt's house on Morcom Ave. off 55th Ave. in Oakland. Oakland is full of crime!!
Another visit coming and I haven't been to CA since 2008! On Sept. 6, I'll fly to Seattle to visit my BF from Georgia who has relocated on Bainbridge Island. We will visit my Poulakos nephew at Seabrook, WA on the coast.
Sept. 12, I'll fly to Oakland where my "baby" niece, from Redding, CA, will pick me up and will visit family and friends. Again, will visit my school chum, Angie Munoz Guerra ('59) in Concord, CA. I am looking forward to SF clam chowder in a bread bowl! Yummm.
