Sandy's Story

So, like everyone else says , where do you start? Leaving out a lot of details about immeidiatly following high school, I moved to Bremerton and became a Dental Assistant/Office Manager. Learned a lot, which is mostly forgotten now. Then, moved back to PA,worked some piddilly jobs, married in 1968,was divorced in 88. The highlight of those years was having 4 beautiful daughters.I worked at Pennys dept store in 87 and returned to work there during the divorce. After discovering I could make it on my own, I transferred my job to Auburn,WA. I worked there until I quit to take care of my granddaughter, Hannah. I married Steve Rogers, in Enumclaw, WA, in 1991. We started out with a house full of kids (6) and dogs(4), living in a mobile home park. Now it's 18 years later and I have to admit that our life has been one big roller coaster of ups and downs all mostly good, sometimes quite exciting, unpredictable events, and some that would bore anyone else to death. But Steve & I can look back and laugh at ourselves about most of it.Maybe, I'll fill in some of those things, in time. As for right now, I spend most of my time taking care of my doggies, which, if you looked at my pictures you know about. I also take care of my mom (who lives next to us, in her own little house, on our property) and babysit my 19 month old grandson. Steve is retired but took on a part time job at Home Depot for "something to do" (LOL). He actually has more to do than he can possibly get done in a lifetime but he loves the interaction with the people and is the "Kids Workshop Captain" which he also loves doing. In our spare time,(LOL again)if we ever get any, we like to go camping. Actually, does anyone know a "Caregiver for the Elderly", that also does "In Home Petcare" and "Babysitting" and ...."WORKS FOR ROOM AND BOARD" ????????i July,2012 Looks like it's time for an update. It the present I am no longer doing active Foster For the Dog Rescue organizations I have been working for the last several years. I hurt my back last year and am still in the recovery process. I also have developed cateracts in both eyes and due to insurance rea...Expand for more
sons have not gotten the surgery needed to correct the situation yet. Soon I hope as I am completely blind in the right eye and the left gets blurrier every day. I still take care of mom and my grandson. I also have recently had a majorly huge discovery in my life. I knew I had relatives some where in the area of Missouri, Oklahoma or Colorado. With a last name of a grandfather on my birth certificate I went on a records search and found one person in Oklahoma with that name. Knowing that someone had called years ago several times to other family members trying to locate me, I took a chance and wrote to the person I found. About two weeks later I got a call from someone named Mike who left a message and number with my daughter for me to call back.Turned out the person I wrote to was my Aunt and the person calling was my cousin. The last time any of them had seen me was when I was five years old. Mike was six. Long story short, we communicated back and forth for a couple of months and then at the end of May Steve and I flew to Oklahoma to meet them. I am so blessed. I have a wonderful family that I didn't even know about. Every one turned out for a dinner in our honor and I cannot believe I have so many people that were so anxious to meet me. It was totally awesome. We spent a terrific week there with them and had the best time.It was not nearly enough time to get to know them so I can't wait to make a return trip. This discovery has filled an empty spot in me that I have felt for so many years. The not knowing, was the hard part. Now I know I have family and I know where those before have gone, where my family is buried and have pictures of gravestones including my grand parents and great grand parents and even great great grandparents. I have roots. One day I will make a trip to Missouri and Texas. Even though I have no family left there, I can find where they are buried and get more pictures to complete my family album. Believe me, it will be worth the trip. This trip has given me such a sense of self, relief, and completeness. It's difficult to explain but anyone who has been down this road understands.
