Sandra's Story
Fun, somewhat shy, introvert, sometimes adventureous, often with my head in a book. Not exactly a stand out but definitely unique at Coolidge:) I grew up in a wonderful family that enabled me to see the world and its people more openly. For that I am very grateful. I grew up in a racially mixed family. My mother "married" my stepdad when I was five. That was in the 1950's. It wasn't the easies thing to do back then. e the birth of my second child. What I lost on my mother's side of the family was more than made up by my father's. It is a huge, loving, accepting family. I never felt for once that I wasn't my father's daughter. I was very close to my grandmother who lived to be 96 years old. She defined the word matriach. Sadly, we have lost a lot of my Dad's family to diabeties. I miss the family dinners, the stories, and the great food and my grandma's raspy voice asking me how's my honey baby? I was blessed. I am lucky to have three wonderful brothers and their families. We carry on the traditions and are passing them on to our kids. At my mother's funeral, my youngest brother said the greatest gift our mother gave us was our love for humanity.
