Sandra's Story
Life
Just retired after 31 years in education, the last 11 as principal of a small alternative high school in Colorado. I have degrees in art, English, science, and earned a PhD, Summa Cum Laude, in Education Administration May, 2005.
I plan to spend my time finishing raising two of my three granddaughters who have lived with me for the past 9 years and spending time with all three, ages 17 mos, 12 years and 13 years.
Besides the girls, I am working on writing a book about the school that I helped establish 15 years ago which will also outline my ideas on high school redesign. When I am not chasing after grand kids and writing, I will be concentrating on painting(ink and watercolor wash) and composing piano pieces.
I have two sons, David,34, and Wayne,31. David works for an oil field company in Grand Junction, CO., and Wayne works for IBM in Boulder, CO. David is divorced and Wayne is married to Nikki and they are parents of my youngest granddaughter.

e has 14 of the famous Colorado Fourteeners lining the western side of the valley. It is an outdoor mecca for whitewater rafting, snow skiing, rock climbing, and outdoor life.
This is a very diverse area as seen in the fact that the percentage of college educated residents and retirees far exceeds national averages for any area of similar population numbers.
Culture is very important in the area, too. We have numerous music groups and groups who support the arts. Salida, to the south of where I live, is billed as the Soho of Colorado, and has galleries lining every street. There is also a partnership with the Aspen Summer Music Program. As part of one local music groups, I play bass clarinet in the local community orchestra, the Alpine Orchestra. We perform three series of concerts a year. I also have performed singing roles in local musical productions and have performed solo for fund raisers and for local organizations.
Life has been filled with many unexpected twists and turns, but it seems that that is the way life is supposed to be and as it is, I don't think that I would have it any other way.
