Sandra's Story

Life Hi! former classmates! I actually can't believe I am writing this bio. It tends to make one think of the past many years, yet when I thing about all the years from Davis Elementary to Ousley Jr. High to A.H.S. it seems like yesterday. Immediately after graduation I went to North Texas State University to major in Voice Performance and Physical Ed. Kind of a unique combination but an extremely fun one. I went 2 years and got married to a Jazz Trombone player who ended up being the lead Trombone player and eventually the lead Jazz Trombone player in the 1:00 Lab Band under Leon Breeden. I opted to work a semester to then go back to finish when I found out that I was unexpectedly pregnant. The pill is definitely not 100% foolproof! During my pregnancy, my husband, Ken George, was playing on weekends for the Jerry Gray band at the Fairmount Hotel in downtown Dallas. That was a huge honor since Jerry Gray was famous for his writing of the famous song "String of Pearls" recorded by tons of famous musicians. I was very fortunate to meet many music legends such as Tony Bennet, Mitzi Gaynor, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley in Las Vegas,Ike and Tina Turner in Houston, and many more. The month that I was due to have the baby I was sitting down at a table in the Pyramid Room at the Fairmount. That weekend Robert Goulet was entertaining. He came down and sang to me as a treat to Ken and I. It was very memorable being a singer myself. Many times I would go into the kitchen of the Pyramid Room to watch the noteable chefs creating incredible dishes for the guests. I think that is when I got the bug to be a chef myself. I regret to say that after 13 years of marriage Ken left Amy and me. I have never remarried. I am very happy and the proud mother of Amy Lee George. Amy has been very successful in her career. After graduating from U.N.T.in Denton, Texas, she began her career as an anchorwoman and producer for KTEN Television Station as well as a producer for Chanel 8's Cable News Station TXCN. She then went to bei...Expand for more
ng the Public Relation Manager for MADD handling last year's Miss America with American Idol's famous contestants, and presenting important bills on the Senate floor for MADD. She now is the Director of Corporate Communications for Dr. Kenneth Cooper's Aerobics Center in Dallas. During the last many years I was, thankfully, a successful owner of a catering company in Dallas, Texas. I catered various types of venues and had an opportunity to cater for T. Boone Pickens. In 2008. I became the Chef/Manager of Tyler's Cafe at the Cooper Aeobics Center. Dr. Cooper is the person responsible for inventing the word "aerobics", was responsible for the physicals for many of the astronauts, former President George Bush's physican and if you go to South America or England you may here someone say "I am going Coopering", rather than saying jogging. I work in a very interesting environment and I get to see my Amy most everyday which is such a bonus. We are both very active as you can see. I also get to see Donna Thomas (Jenkins) on a regular basis since she is a member here. My brother, Scott, known as "Golden Toe" from his A.H.S. football days in his class of 1973, is a Strategic Suppliers Manager at Lochheed Martin in Ft. Worth. He travels all over the world negociating contracts for F-16's, F-22's, F-35's and other aircraft. My parents lived on Britt Drive for 3o years. That street was named after Britt Phillips. After my Dad's retirement, my Mom and Dad built a great place on my Grandpa's farm in Oklahoma. My dad passed on in 1996 with Leukemia. Scott, Amy and I continue to visit my Mom at our farm in Oklahoma. My sister, Kim, lives with my mom and they both help each other out. Lots of my classmates from South Davis and Emma Ousley Jr. High used to come up there with us growing up. Most of them had never been on a farm and usually cried coming back home because they had so much fun and didn't want to leave. I guess that's all for now. Hope to hear from someone! Hope you come to the 40th class reunion. Warmest memories, Sandy
