Sandra's Story

Brandenburg History 12/28/07 At 11:35 am, Thursday, June 30, 2011, Sandy Brandenburg was blessed with mercy and peace, succumbing to metastatic small cell carcinoma. Lauren Brandenburg and Joyce Aceves ( her sister) were at her side as she crossed over. Christine Brandenburg, Edward Brandenburg, Barbara Williams, Joe Provansal, Shannon Provansal Lane, and the rest of my family, and I thank you for all your love and support throughout this heartbreaking time in our lives. It has made all the difference. Lauren "Brandy" Brandenburg Sandy & Brandy ! Hello my name is Sandy and I am from Southern California...I was born in Los Angles January 17, 1947. Moved to Rockford, Ill. at the age of 6 mo. Stayed there 'till I was 4, then moved to Phoenix, Az. because of an asthma condition. Then back to the LA area a year later, finally settling down in San Gabriel, CA. about 10 miles east of Los Angles. All of my schooling was completed in the San Gabriel Schools of Mc Kinley Grammar School (K-8) and then San Gabriel High, when I graduated in 1965. September 11 th. of the same year I married long time high school sweetheart Brandy. We immediately left for Germany, where Brandy was stationed serving in the US Army, as a helicopter mechanic. Hi, my name is Lauren (Brandy) and I am from Southern California also. I was born December 28, 1943 in Los Angles. Lived in Los Angles 'till was 5, then moved to Alhambra, CA. Attended Martha Baldwin Elementary School (K-8), then on to San Gabriel High School. Coincidentally, my home in Alhambra was less than a quarter of a mile from Sandy's in San Gabriel. We met at school when Sandy was 15 and I was 18 and exclusively dated 'till we were married, September 11, 1965. I enlisted in the US Army May 1964 after two years at Pasadena City College. Endured basic training at Ft. Ord, Monterey, CA. Then on to helicopter school at Ft. Eustis, Va. (just outside of historic Williamsburg). On to Germany in January 1965, stationed at Finthen Army Air Field, in the 245th. Transportation Company. We traveled extensively in Europe, saw a lot, memories you could never buy. We went to quite a few German Gran Prix races at the Nurburgring, also the 1000 Kilometers of Nurburgr...Expand for more
ing. That was the first European running of the famous Jim Hall & Hap Sharp "Chaparral D-Coupe". Collected souvenirs to send home, Hummel's, wine and beer glasses, elegant beer stines, a superb Solingen carving set and memories of two wonderful years that we could have never afforded without the help of "Uncle Sam". My duties were 8:00 to 5:00, and half a day Saturday, at times. So time spent was more like a auto mechanic back home than the army. Off every evening, living off post, no phone, so they couldn't call me. It was wonderful. Upon returning home with Sandy pregnant with what was to be our daughter, Christine, she settled in with my parents in Bishop, California, while I finished out my service in Ft. Rucker, Al. Once out of the army, I went to work for the Union Carbide mine outside of Bishop, until our daughter was born. After Christine's six weeks check-up, moved in with Sandy's parents for a week or so 'till I got a job, and set up an apartment. After a 5 yr. wait, our son Edward was born December 12th.1972 A succession of rentals later, all were sold out from under us, we bought in Glendora, Ca. The job I got was to be a life long career with Pacific Bell, then (after divestiture) Pacific Telesis, then SBC West (after being "merged" with Southwestern Bell Communications). Same company, different names, and October 16th. 2004 I would have been at the same company for 37 years. Unfortunately I was un-ceremoniously requested to find another job within the company or retire. As there were no other jobs available, I retired Feb. 15th. 2004. We fixed up our home in Glendora, CA., made an absolutely obscene amount of money, found a beautiful home to be built for us in Prescott Valley, AZ. We moved in on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17th. 2006. (See OUR HOME) September 11th. 2007 Sandy and I will have been married 42 years, not bad for a High School Romance that was never supposed last. PS: The first part of November we are expecting our first Grandchild. Our Daughter had been trying for years, she finally got a new Hubby, and no more problems.
