Sandra's Story
After graduation I married my high school sweetheart, Wayne Uhl. We have been married 38 years. We have 3 children, 1 son and 2 daughters. Our son Jason has 2 boys, our daghter Jennifer has 3 girls and will soon give us our 10th grandchild in July and our daughter Juli has 2 girls and twin boys. All 3 of our children graduated from the enemy: McNicholas High School!! We adore our grandchildren and spoil them every chance we get.
Wayne & I both went to and graduated from the University of Cincinnati, me with a BSN (Nursing) and BS in Biology degree and Wayne with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Wayne also went on to Xavier University and received his MBA.
Most of the years since graduating from Anderson were spent in the Anderson area. But in 2001 we moved to upstate New York to Rochester for about a year. Then back to the Cincinnati area to West Chester. While in West Chester we were given the opportunity to live in Stratford-Upon Avon England for 9 months. But in 2005 Wayne's career took us to Columbus, home of THE Ohio State University. I swear, when living in this town it is like living amidst the largest sports cult!! Come September the entire city turns scarlet & gray. But we enjoyed it and loved going to Buckeye football & basketball games. Then in May 2008, Wayne and I moved across the country to San Diego, California. After years of working for large corporations he decided to go into business...Expand for more
for himself. Since our son Jason lives in Carlsbad, California and the weather here is close to perfect we chose to start the business here.
I worked until 2001 as an RN. I worked at Mercy Anderson, Bethesda and University Hospitals as a critical care & trauma nurse. I also worked at University Hospital as the Vascular Nurse Clinician and research nurse. My most recent position was with Kendle International as the Manager of the Clinical Support Center. Since moving to New York I have unofficially retired and enjoy being a housewife, taking care of my family and making my breast cancer bracelets!
Wayne and I love to travel and have taken some great trips all around the world. We have golfed in Scotland at St. Andrews, toured Italy, Switzerland, England, France and Germany. We have cruised all the Carribean, Hawaii, Mexico and the Panama Canal. Taking a cruise is our favorite way to get away from it all.
In 2006 I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. And I am happy to report that after all my treatments I am cancer free 3 years later. I am active supporting the Susan G. Komen breast cancer research foundation and can be found walking in the fund-raising event each September. I also started my own business, Pink Ribbon Bracelets, where I make bracelets and donate the funds to the foundation.
If you find yourself in San Diego please look us up, we love to entertain and guests are always welcome.
