Sandra's Story
Life
Worked in KCRA Newsroom at Assignment Desk for the 1st 5 years out of college. Until June 2004 at CSUS I did videography, producing, writing, and editing of video. I am an instructional designer working with faculty to design instruction for face to face and online or television teaching. During the first 20 years at CSUS I worked parttime at KCRA in Engineering and as a parttime news videographer and editor.
Now that I am retiring I am taking piano lessons, consulting, doing aikido, planting at the community garden and swimming and visiting friends. It is great! Am working on a course with a former English teacher who lives in N.Y. and the course is the study of Homer's works. I have a feeling the last hopefully 3rd of my life is going to be very busy and fun.
Got married to Jerry Helland in '84. Continued to work at CSUS, a little more at KCRA and did parttime television production teaching at Cosumnes River College and at CSUS. Most recently taught a Comm. Studies course at CSUS called Writing for Interactive Multimedia.
Retiring June 27, 2004. Future life to include, piano playing, community gardening, aikido, swimming, travel, and relax and take care of self.

fective courses and parts of courses for any mediated format for 34 years, occasionally teaching tv production and design for interactive media,retiring 2004. Active in a community garden, playing piano, swimming, walking, skiing, cooking, playing cribbage, plays (love N.Y.), enjoy being with my husband Jerry, my sister Sunny and her husband, many good friends and all people I have worked with over the years. Still in touch with a few friends from high school and lost touch with many I still hope to connect with in the future.
Workplace
Presently I'm designing a webpage for CSUS on critical thinking strategies in teaching, designing 2 totally online course; one is a capstone course for Liberal Studies online with CSU Chico and CSU Sacramento students, the other is Adolescent Learners. Both courses train future teachers. Other disciplines where teachers are using my skills are; Social Work, Art, History, and Child Development. After retirement it may be difficult to stay out of this work because it is always interesting and the people with whom I work become close friends and it continually grows. People of a wide variety of ages, cultures and interests. I am a jack of all trades and master of none. But it is very creative work and most satisfying. I can work at home one day, in the Center for Teaching and Learning another or in my office or a teacher's office. Sometimes we meet to work in a public place and have coffee. It is a good productive life.
