Sandra's Story
Places lived: Stillwater and Mechanicville, NY; Arlington, VT; Charleston, SC; Burtonsville, MD; Irvine and Long Beach, CA. (favorite -- beach in Belmont Shore in Long Beach. Second - Arlington, VT), currently Colonie, NY.
The move to California was my spiritual journey - in search of a life without my children. When the youngest left home I decided I could sulk in my empty nest or spread my wings and fly. I chose that later and have never regretted the decision:)
Employment: 9 years with Sofco Distribution: Machine Operator, Customer Service, Production/Shipping/Sales Manager in Mechanicville and Scotia, NY; and outside Sale Representative in MA and VT.
Political positions: WREI FELLOW/Graduate Intern in the office of Congressman Robert "Bobby" Scott, 3rd District VA; Graduate Assistant in the office of Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, Erie County; Legistative Director in the office of Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, Westchester County.
Lobbyist: IBEW and NYSUT.
Child Welfare: Saratoga County DSS - Child Protective Caseworker, Long Term Preventive Caseworker, Foster Care Caseworker, HomeFinder, and GSPII/MAPP trainer (training foster parents). Birth Mother Counselor for the Adoption Network in California.
Training positions: The Research Foundation of SUNY Albany - CONNECTIONS trainer and curriculum writing; The Research Foundation of Buffalo State - CDHS trainer and Senior Educational Specialist -- total 6 years. (Favorite position -- probably working with families and children but training caseworkers throughout NYS is making me feel fulfilled at the present time) Currently IT Specialist with Knowledge Buliders Inc., contractor with Office of Children and Family Services.

ghter, Cassandra, when I relocated. I stayed with my middle child, Allison, in Irvine until settled. Then I worked for McMaster Carr and lived in Belmont Shore in Long Beach, CA. My apartment was located across the street from the beach. Every morning and evening I walked the beach, rode my bike along the paths and woke to the sights and sounds of the ocean. WIth my mother's failing health and Allison's relocating to Colorado I decided to return home. That is where I remain, in Mechanicville with the dream of one day making another trip to the next destination, wherever that may be!!
My son, Joe, is now 37 -- he pursued my dream of being an artist. He is an art assistant to Ellsworth Kelly and loving his career. His daughter, Taylor, is now 18 following in her father's footsteps. She is enrolled as a Fine Arts major with Pratt University and she is the greatest. My daughter, Allison, is back in California living with her husband Eric in San Diego with their boxer Elroy, African Mastiff Mojo and newest addition is my grandson, Tanner Wilson Buchanan. My youngest child, Cassandra, is living in Clifton Park with her boyfriend Brian. They both completed their BA degrees at Keystone College in PA. I have truly been blessed. I would not change any of them.
I now pursue my love of learning. I have two more creative writing classes with UCLA and I will completed my Certificate in 2014. I am currently completing my Quatum Success Life Coaching course and plan to begin my own business coaching clients. My next pursuit is to work on a degree Social Neuroscience. It will be a long road, but one that will take me to the end.
Life has had its ups and downs but I feel it has been a rewarding and fullfilling life. I look forward to what the future will brings.
