Tony's Story

Life Updated 28 Apr 10: Upon graduating from Petal, I attended PRC for two years and then on to USM graduating in 1979. In 1980 I married Sandy Chapman and we settled into the real world. I coached and taught in Mississippi at Lumberton, North Forrest, and Vancleave until 1988. I then coached at MSU from 88 to 90. It was at MSU where I received my MS degree in 91. During this time, as a member of the MS Army National Guard I was activated for Operation Desert Storm. After Desert Storm we moved to Texas where I coached at Pittsburg ISD and Dawson ISD. I then moved into school administration where I have served as Assistant Principal and Principal for several districts in East Texas. In October of 2003 I was again mobilized for active duty service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For the next 15 months life was interesting to say the least. My unit, the 114th Army Liaison Team was assigned to the Anbar Province region of Iraq. That's a whole story in it's self. We returned home in March of 2005. I then returned back to Texas and my job as an elementary and middle school principal at Winfield ISD, remaining in this position until this school year. The 2009 - 2010 school year has been extremely interesting to say the least, after serving as principal at Winfield ISD for several years I was appointed as interim superintendent during the first week of school. It was my intention to remain there until recently when I had the opportunity to move to a larger district as high school principal where I will begin my duties in July of 2010. andy and I will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Unlike many of our friends and colleagues we still have children at home. Our two children Deanna 17 and Joseph 15 are your typical teenagers. Both are very active in school and church activities. High School As we grow older one begins to reminisce about old high school friends and what there lives are like. This is true especially for those of us who have moved away. In the 70's life at PHS was good but college was fantastic. Numerous doors were opened and a chance to travel and see the world. College After graduating from PHS in 75 I went to PRC from 75 to 77 on football scholarship. Played on the 1976 state championship football team at PRC. Moved to USM in the summer of 77. Graduated with a double major in secondary education and athletic administration in 1979. Began work on my master's degree in 1988 at MSU, graduated in spring 91 with a MS in Education Administration. I am currently continuing post graduate work in educational leadership at Texas A & M University. Military A great 27 years of service. I was very fortunate to see the world at its best and worst through the eyes of the military. I have served in various assignments through active duty and the National Guard throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Caribbean, and Middle East. Activated for two wars. Served in Iraq from 2003 until March 2005. Then in late August of 2005 I was activated for one last mission in support of Hurricane Katrina relief in August & September 2005. Then in June of 2006 I retired.
