Sandy's Story

Life June 8, 2006 Hello, and thanks for visiting! Here's the "nutshell" version of my life's events since graduation from SKHS in 1981: 1. Attended and graduated from WSU with a BA in Communications 2. Married in 1983, divorced in 1989 3. One child - a son named Glenn, who is now 20 and attending Olympic College. He wants to get his degree in civil engineering and open his own restaurant. 4. Worked as a radio station news director, 911 call receiver/dispatcher/shift supervisor. Also worked as a legislative secretary to the King County Hearing Examiners' office, and I currently work as an Office Manager for SPEEA in Wichita, Kansas - I know! Kansas! Who would ever have guessed that one! I'll be returning to Washington soon, though, because Kansas isn't home and it's just too darn flat, humid and uneventful for me. I've been spoiled by the beauty and energy of western Washington. 5. In addition to working full time, I'm also taking on-line classes through Western Governors University out of Salt Lake City. I'm earning a bachelor of science in business management, with an emphasis in financial, cost and tax accounting. After I return to Washington, I plan to start a part time accounting business out of my home - mainly doing Quickbooks accounts and taxes. This, in addition to wor...Expand for more
king full time as an executive assistant or office manager. 6. Favorite things to do: cook, read, bicycle (I spin cycle 3 times per week, and plan to join my brother in the STP ride next year), spend time with my wonderful son and other family members, sing in my church choir, or spend the weekend at Ocean Shores enjoying the sounds, sights and smells of the ocean. 7. Sadly, my 86-year old father died in September 2004 after a 6 year battle with multiple myeloma - a cancer that started in his blood plasma, and was the result of years of radiation exposure when he worked at the Hanford Nuclear Facility in the Tri-Cities. While Dad and I were never close (he wasn't close with any of his 6 children), he was always a dependable provider and a good man. I have a photo of him that I retouched using PhotoShop software - it was taken in 1941, about a year before he went into the Navy. He's wearing a suit and looks like a Hollywood movie star of that generation. My Dad was a fire controlman in the Navy (one of those brave souls who operated the gun turrets) and the top marksman on his ship. I'll be in Seattle next week on business travel, but unfortunately won't have time to do much other than work and visit a friend who lives near Alki Beach. I would really enjoy hearing from you. God Bless you.
