Sandy's Story

My story isn't real flashy and exciting but it has been a fun life for me. I went to secretarial school and then went to work for Amber's Coorporate office. I managed the computerized warehouse inventory, store orders, whole sale orders and computerized pricing. They moved out of Abilene and to the Dallas area and I chose to stay behind. I was married at the time to my first husband. After that I bounced a few short time positions and then worked for Merchant's motor lines filing weekly customer tarrifs with the ICC. About the time I got tired of them TDCJ came to town and in 1992 I went to work for the state. Six months after that I divorced. I've worked for the state ever since and plan to stay until I retire at the ripe old age of 50. I've been a secretary, diagnostic intake, a purchaser and now I'm a CO again (it's my second time around). With the flexibility of the state I have lived in Lubbock, Plainview, Huntsville and I am currently in Groesbeck. I moved here from Huntsville to marry my 2nd husband and unfortunately that did not work out either but I did get a nice piece of property that I love. 12 acres in the middle of nowhere - can't see my neighbors and can bare...Expand for more
ly hear them. I had left TDCJ and worked for MHMR and TYC for a total of 5 years. When I came back through the TDCJ academy I met the guy I should have met 20 years ago. We are very compatible and I am enjoying life more than I ever dreamed possible. I did not have any children of my own but he has full custody of his daughters, so for the last 4 years I have been a mom. That has been a challenge to say the least. The oldest is 18 now and the youngest 16. I enjoyed growing up in a small town and especially enjoyed BHS. I never thought I would leave but now I know I'll never go back to stay. I have found my place in this world. It took years of searching and figuring things out but I am comfortable and confident with the person I have become and my life. When I retire I plan on doing a lot of traveling, especially since retirement comes so early in life. After we spend some time doing that, then I hope to open my own business and work for myself for a change. When I finally get to end my tour of duty I will have worked for the state for 25 years, 20 of it with TDC and after dealing with the dregs of society and the administrative staff it will be time to do something for me.
