Sara's Story
Sara Duque received her teaching degree from California State University, Fresno. She met and married a fellow teacher, Grant Mellor. After 10 years of classroom teaching and with a third child on the way, Sara's husband was accepted to a medical school in Pennsylvania. With her three very young children in tow, Joshua, Xochitl (Sochie) and Matthew, she followed her husband through Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rochester, Minnesota (Mayo Clinic), Ottumwa, Iowa and finally to Lodi, California to complete his medical training. Her husband works for Kaiser Permanente in Stockton and is Chief of Pediatrics for the central valley. Sara never gave up her love of teaching. In all three states she was able to be a stay-at-home mom, teach art to young children and even provided a group of teachers with lesson plans in teaching art. sses to improve her knowledge and skill in teaching art to children. She hopes to receive a degree in Studio Art, and begin her path in becoming a great teacher of art. Sara is presently teaching art classes at the Haggin Art Museum in Stockton and with the "I Can Do That! Art for all Abilities program in Sacramento; she is a docent at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento.
Her children are now 28, 26 and 24 years of age. Joshua, the eldest, is at Brown University Medical School doing his pediatric residency.He is a Captain in the United States Air Force. Xochitl (Sochie) Graduated from MIT with a major in mechanical engineering and minor in biological/chemical engineering. She is a student at Case Western Reserve Medical School. The youngest, Matthew, graduated from MIT in mechanical engineering and is presently working as a mechanical engineer.
