Sarah's Story
In a nutshell, since 1998 I have been living in Miami where I am a professor at Florida International University (U of Florida at Miami). Not to be confused with Univ. of Miami. We are a public university of almost 40K students. I'm an anthropologist here.
In terms of family, I am remarried to Miguel "Mike" Marante who was born in Cuba but grew up in New York including a few years when we overlapped but never knew each other in Tarrytown, NY (north of the City). I have one daughter, Sophia, 17, by my first marriage. She's anxious to go to college and wants to go to NYC, preferably NYU. And I have another stepdaughter, Priscila, 24, by my first marriage who is a doctor in Queens. And Mike has two grown children, Lisa and Michael and 7 grand children so I'm a step mom and a step grandmother. It's quite complicated but it works.
Mike, my youngest brother Mark, and myself started a company in 2003 that is doing well (we are in Middle Eas...Expand for more
t security business but it's a long story), so Mike works for the company which is located north of Orlando.
My parents are alive and doing quite well. They live in Sarasota, FL and south of Buffalo during the summers. My middle brother, David, and family also live there where he's the headmaster (principal) of a private school. And my older brother, Jeff OHS class of '76, lives in Evergreen, Colorado where he's a clinical psychologist.
We feel very blessed at this difficult time for so many that we are healthy and have no financial problems unlike so many.
So that's the snapshot. The photo of me I posted was taken in June '09, a trip to Peru with friends and Sophia and Priscila that was really great. Did lots of hiking, even an afternoon of paragliding off the Pacific Coast, and some volunteering in the highlands.
Hope to hear from some of my friends at OHS. It was not the best time of my life for sure, but still many good people.
